Clickwalk

[edit]

Could we add a mention of www.clickwalk.no ? This is a similar project that predates GSV by 9 years and offered basically the same service. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.114.37.107 (talk) 20:40, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The first GPS based street view imaging service was demonstrated in 1999 in Ireland. A fully functional interactive web app with 360-degree image rotation was available in 2002. The service was known as Position Images and was recorded by The waybackmachine.com in 2002. https://web.archive.org/web/20021003073930/http://www.positionimages.com/dc/tk8/dublinC4setroute.html Speechviewer (talk) 23:10, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Saucy[talkcontribs] 03:16, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Google Street View & Waymo

[edit]

Does anyone know if Google Street View data (not only the images/video captured, but also the driving actually performed by the human driver) was used to train Google's self-driving cars (Waymo)? There's nothing mentioned in this article about it, but it seems quite likely that it was. (Otherwise, that seems like a tremendous waste of data.) If so, a mention should be added to this article. X's on ground

[edit]

Mention that one can apparently tell where each picture was taken, as "X"s will appear on the ground as one moves the mouse. Jidanni (talk) 19:10, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Data capturing equipment

[edit]

This section is a mess. There needs to be an explanation of "R2," "R5," and "R7." What does this code mean? And they need dates. Of particular interest is what was the timeframe of Google discontinued its use of the poor-quality Elphel cameras which had the image quality of the worst of early cellphone cameras. This is easily shown by using the "See more dates" function.

Also, the 11-MP sensor was Kodak's interline transfer imaging chip which proved capable in other cameras such as Redlake.
