Important notice

[edit]

The government section of the "Outline of Taiwan" needs to be checked, corrected, and completed -- especially the subsections for the government branches.

When the country outlines were created, temporary data (that matched most of the countries but not all) was used to speed up the process. Those countries for which the temporary data does not match must be replaced with the correct information.

Please check that this country's outline is not in error.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact The Transhumanist .

Thank you.

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved reverted back to original title, and page protected to prevent further disruption without an accompanying discussion at WP:RM. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:30, 5 March 2013 (UTC) ~Amatulić (talk) 20:30, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Government of TaiwanGovernment of the Republic of China – The undiscussed move to this title should be reverted. This article, as it stands, contains a description of the government as it existed pre-1949, so calling the whole thing the "government of Taiwan" is simply incorrect. The current consensus (as far as I know) is that in articles strictly dealing with the state / government, we should refer to the state as the ROC, but even were the common name to be used, the article should be moved back until the pre-1949 parts are split off. The disambiguation page currently at Government of the Republic of China is largely a duplicate of Republic of China (disambiguation), and can easily be merged or simply deleted. wctaiwan (talk) 03:21, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Wctaiwan, you can add to tech moves at WP:RM for this and an admin will restore it immediately per WP:BRD. In ictu oculi (talk) 10:33, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Since it's already listed (in addition to the fact that it's possibly controversial), I'm not going to relist it as a technical move. But feel free to ask an admin to take a look if you think it would help. wctaiwan (talk) 11:05, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This is not about using the technical move to avoid a discussion on a controversial issue. The move that was made was controversial, and under the procedures should be reverted as a technical move (which would be the normal procedure anyway if an administrator wasn't required to revert). The move can then be proposed to the new title under the Requested move process. Skinsmoke (talk) 12:16, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy WP:BRD since this article is not about Taiwan, it's about China, anything pre-1950 is about China, not Taiwan. What the person who moved it should have done was to split this page in two, since the thing residing at "Government of ROC" is entirely lacking in the information found here. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 11:38, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Beiyang Government and Nationalist Government

[edit]

Originally, the current Government of the Republic of China was formally established in 1947 with accordance of he Constitution of the Republic of China. Before that, it was called Nationalist Government which was dissolved into the current government of the ROC in 1947. The government which moved to Taipei was not the Nationalist Govt, but the government of the Republic of China. So I suggest to move some contents about the government before 1947 to Beiyang Government and Nationalist Government.--134.53.244.13 (talk) 18:49, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Government of the Republic of ChinaGovernment of Taiwan – "Taiwan" is the common name. The use of "Taiwan" instead of "Republic of China" has increased over the years to the point that the phrase "Republic of China" is confusing to an average reader. It has been objected that "Taiwan" is not the official name of the country, but Wikipedia:Article_titles#Common_names is clear that the common name should take precedence over the official name where they differ and the official name does not approach the common name in wider usage. Coco977 (talk) 13:18, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Since this article contains content about the mainland era, I suggest to move those content to Beiyang government and Nationalist government, because the current Government of the Republic of China was not formally established until 1948, after the Constitution of the Republic of China.Coco977 (talk) 13:24, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as proposed. The current article contains substantial info on the ROC government when it controlled the mainland. The current government of Taiwan is a subset of that. I also don't think removal of content is the answer.--Cúchullain t/c 13:43, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The current Government of the Republic of China was not established until 1948. It was called the Nationalist government before this, so those content when it controlled the mainland should be at the article Nationalist government.Coco977 (talk) 13:52, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree on this one. The mainland Republic of China was called, well, the "Republic of China". It makes sense that an article on its government would be called "Government of the Republic of China". We don't really have a better location for this material. Perhaps the better solution is to spin out "Government of Taiwan" into a separate article.--Cúchullain t/c 13:58, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I agree on spinning out "Government of Taiwan" into a separate article.Coco977 (talk) 14:05, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I added the infobox regarding the Government of the Republic of China as shown in the bottom. Should it be restored or kept removed? 2607:FEA8:61F:F0AB:FCD4:BB2F:46A:D495 (talk) 18:40, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Survey

[edit]
  • Restore It's a nice summary. --Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 02:57, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore Why was it deleted? L3X1 My Complaint Desk 13:26, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore I don't know why it was deleted either. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. Blurp92 (talk) 04:34, 9 February 2017 (UTC) I was originally for restoring this infobox, but after further evaluation, I see that Lemongirl942 and TU-nor do raise valid points. And to be honest, I agree with them. It isn't necessary nor commonplace, with other "Government of..." articles not using this infobox. And, as demonstrated in the comparison between the two infoboxes that Lemongirl942 has shown, it overlaps with infoboxes that said "Government of..." articles use. So, on that basis, I would now also say remove. Blurp92 (talk) 23:41, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Remove Yes, I had removed the infobox. If you look at the article, it already contains the template {{Politics of the Republic of China}} which provides most of the information in a better manner. Adding this infobox doesn't add a lot to the article. Another reason why the infobox is not particularly suited is because it might oversimplify a lot of stuff (for example, ROC's jurisdiction is controversial and it needs to be explained in the text itself). See the table below which compares both.
Comparison of existing template and infobox

In addition, quite a lot of other "Government of..." articles do not seem to be using Infoboxes (Government of California, Government of Singapore (GA)) and I don't see a particular problem with it. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 15:25, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Scope of the article

[edit]

The header says the article is about the government of the RoC since 1948. That implies that large parts of the article should be merged into Nationalist government. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:17, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Nationalist government article is very specifically about the 1925-1948 period with a very different historical context than this one. NM 05:09, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
