Hello - This article has been exhaustively researched in an innumerable number of newspapers and other documents such that most facts have two or more sources, often one in recent years and one or more from the time period; whereever possible a reference to a database with a free subscription has been provided. In some cases more than one reference is not possible as some newspapers are not readily available even on the internet today (Cleveland, Buffalo, Rochester area).
It is detailed because the impacts on each city are different and really should not be over-generalized; in fact, it is not proper to oversummarize, as is done in many articles, including some storm-related articles, as unless that is an exact quote/reference, that is not proper referencing. As well, the details for each city or state provide interesting ACTUAL facts for readers who might be from that state, province or city, not vague generic statements, about that very specific time period (a period very different than even the 1960s and forward to today) so I very much hope the person who reviews this article does not attempt to cut down its length before they approve it.
That being said, the lead section, references some specific items but for many sentences it is a summary of the huge amount of material, all fully referenced, in the body. That is the purpose of the lead and other summary sections, so I hope no one argues against that.
