Haji Anayat Ali

[edit]

Haji Anayat Ali is the current Chairman of The Legislative Council of the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. He was nominated as The Chairman of The Legislative Council of Jammu and Kashmir on the 12th of April, 2015[1].Haji Anayat Ali is from the Kargil district of Ladakh region in the Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir.

As a Transporter

[edit]

Haji Anayat Ali rose to prominence on the social as well as the political landscape of Kargil at the age of 29 years when he created a successful Transport Co-operative Society in Kargil, generating employment and economic opportunities for hundreds of poor families in the district. He did this by persuading the various State and Center Govt. agencies operating in the transportation of goods and services in Kargil about the low cost of engaging local commercial vehicles readily available at Kargil, which was in the past always provided by transport companies outside of Kargil
His efforts paid off and owing to the huge area of Kargil district (14,500 sq Kms), this business initiative culminated in the creation of a large private transportation sector in Kargil resulting in the ten fold increase in the numbers of heavy commercial vehicles in the district within a short time span of a decade.
His interactions with the masses from all walks of life during this period of time won him a firm support base at the grassroot level of Kargil society which ultimately resulted in his active involvement into politics. During this time he was also elected as the president of the youth wing of the oldest Islamic socio-religious organisation of Ladakh, The Anjuman e Jamiat ul Ulema Ithna Asharia, Kargil.

Political Career

[edit]

In 2002 Legislative Assembly Elections, the election campaign of the future first Cabinet Minister from Kargil, Haji Nisar Ali was launched from the transport office compound of Haji Anayat Ali which was a considerable success.[2]In 2008 Legislative Assembly Elections Haji Anayat Ali's support in the capacity of Youth Wing President of Islamia School Kargil, proved beneficial for National Conference to secure victory over the two MLA seats of Kargil District.[3].[4] The 2008 LAHDC Kargil[5] elections[6] had also went in favor of the candidates who were suported by Haji Anayat Ali.Later in 2009 Indian General Elections the MP seat of Ladakh also went in favor of Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan, the independent candidate[7] supported by Islamia School Kargil with Haji Anayat Ali as its youth wing President. By the spring of 2010, Haji Anayat Ali had firmly established himself as a major political figure to be reckoned with on the political arena of Ladakh. In 2015 he joined the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party and during the same year he was nominated as Member of the Legislative Council J&K, representing Kargil. [8]
