Article comments

[edit]

I added some material and redid some parts. I also cleaned up the previous references. Article now seems more complete. This could easily become a GA article with a little more effort. Review requested. Jrcrin001 (talk) 17:54, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rank

[edit]

His rank is listed as "General" but it appears he was dismissed from the Army at a relatively young age and not promoted posthumously? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.57.252.37 (talk) 03:30, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously he wasn't a general. Nor was he in the Spanish-American War, so there seems to be no reason to include him in that category.2600:1004:B105:CE61:4C52:69D6:1E36:B8C9 (talk) 22:39, 28 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A suggested minor change in wording

[edit]

It's a minor issue, but under the heading "10th Cavalry Regiment, the last sentence of the penultimate paragraph reads "Until November 1879, during his captain's four-month leave, Flipper commanded this unit by himself and received a well done." (emphasis added) The final words are confusingly written. "Well done" is usually a quote. The source it cites reads "Within months of receiving his new responsibilities, Flipper was receiving praise from his fellow officers for his handling of his commissary duties." So it appears that it was a general approval from his colleagues and superiors that Flipper received. Perhaps the sentence could be changed to "...Flipper commanded this unit by himself and earned the approval and praise of his fellow officers." Thoughts?
