Smelthouses

Smelthouses appears not to be in this parish, as was stated until I changed it just now. The OS map shows the parish boundary as following Fell Beck, just west of Smelthouses, Hartwith cum Winsley parish council website describes its parish as including Smelthouses, and the OS "GetOutside gives the postcode of HG3 4DH which Mapit says is in Hartwith cum Winsley. I think that's pretty conclusive. (I'd never heard of the place but wondered where it was while describing the route of the Yorkshire Heritage Way which apparently passes through it, searched Wikipedia, and was surprised to find it mentioned in two parishes!) OK, that's fine, it appears the western part may be in High and Low Bishopside but most isn't. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:26, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's quite a small place, but there are houses on both sides of the beck, so it's really split between the two parishes, like Wath further up the dale. The houses on the west side of the beck are in postcode HG3 4DJ. I've now done a separate article.--Mhockey (talk) 21:39, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
