Kono, Kôno, or Kōno?
[edit]Hi all.
"河野" (hiragana: こうの, Hepburn romanization: Kōno, IPA /koːno/) is a rather unusual Japanese family name.
Following the Wikipedia Manual of Style, this article's title may arguably
- be kept as it is, as that is the transliteration of his family name he is best known by
- be moved to "Kōno Hiromichi" or "Hiromichi Kōno", as that is the transliteration of his family name he is best known by
The use of a circumflex instead of a macron to indicate that "Kono" has three moras is very quirky.
That said, is "Kôno" or "Kono" widely used in the scientific literature for this scientist?
