HomePod Image

[edit]

How, and when will we be able to get a good image of the HomePod?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by FoulFix (talkcontribs) 20:51, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We wants it amended soon

[edit]

The following is presently a large proportion of the article lead:

It was announced on June 5, 2017, at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, and originally scheduled for release in December 2017.

The release date slipped to "early 2018".

Apple ultimately began taking preorders on January 26 (having announced them three days earlier), and the first orders began arriving on February 9.

I've bolded the schedule fetish.

Commercial advertising is known to work on this kind of model: mass single-issue collective frustration (we wants it now!) followed by mass relief.

The present lead needs a major refocus on the product as delivered (what the product is and does). — MaxEnt 16:14, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have expanded the lead to talk more about the actual product; it still needs some work, but it should definitely be better now than it was before. Integral Python click here to argue with me 16:50, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Currency mix-matching

[edit]

In the "Marketing and sales" section of the article, there's a case of currency mix-matching. The April 2019 figure has it in US dollars, while the next sentence over uses British pound sterling (In April 2019, Apple reduced the price to USD $299. In March 2021, the price got reduced to £279). Can someone please look over it? Thanks. Marioedit8 (talk) 15:02, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Merger discussion

[edit]

Should we merge HomePod Mini into this article, and have one article covering the whole lineup? HomePod Mini would be turned into a redirect, so it would still show up in Search.

  • This merge would meet criteria 2, 4 and 5 of WP:MERGEREASON. There is substantial overlap between both products, and the Mini article is short. It would also allow us to have a section on audioOS, which would be relevant to both products (criteria 5).
  • It would resolve the overlap between HomePod-the-product-line, and HomePod-the-product.
  • It would lower the maintenance burden on the Apple Inc. WikiProject (see relevant discussion)
  • It's would be easier to bring a combined article to Featured-class, than to coordinate improvements to articles with significant overlap. It's also far easier to prevent WP:DECAY on one article, than on several.
  • Relevant precedent: iPod Touch, iPod Classic, and Apple TV, (edit: and Mac Pro, a Good Article) which are other relatively minor lineups whose new generations did not receive enough in-depth coverage for full articles.

  • Comment (proposer) If a merge doesn't happen, we could either start an audioOS article, or we could lodge an audioOS section in HomePod, and have an empty audioOS section in HomePod Mini that only contains a hatnote to the full section in HomePod; that's another way of avoiding redundancy. It is true, though, that unlike the iPod Touch and Classic, the Apple TV, and the Mac Pro (which are all distinct products with multiple generations), the HomePod and HomePod Mini are two distinct products. DFlhb (talk) 07:34, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Larger one and Mini are distinctly different, and likely as new versions appear, the page will be cluttered and massive. Plus precedent already exists for parts of different line products, with different marketing names are on individual pages. --Jimthing (talk) 21:18, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed; this split is well-supported by secondary sourcing, and most of my merge rationale is gone now that I've added the comparison-table and created audioOS.
Ironically, there are far more justifiable merge requests I should have started instead, like splitting Mac articles between Intel and Apple Silicon; those splits are far more arbitrary. Withdrawing this one. People should keep !voting if they wish, of course, so we get a solid consensus. DFlhb (talk) 21:32, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Table moved to template

[edit]

A comparison table was added to HomePod Mini, comparing the HomePod and HomePod Mini. I moved the table to a template, and added the template here too, so we can more easily keep the tables accurate and in sync with each other. DFlhb (talk) 16:30, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. That comparison table is very helpful. I still support merging the articles, as above. S C Cheese (talk) 17:31, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

HomePod (2nd generation)

[edit]

So, do we merge these?

They were boldly created, redirected repeatedly, but each redirect was reverted. It makes no sense to me, to have separate articles, since they're two different generations of the same product, rather than two different products. DFlhb (talk) 14:32, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
