Plot

[edit]
  • @FloridaArmy I am not sure that this play is really about the Spanish-American War; despite the sources claiming so. This work and This work gives a more detailed plot which is set in Mexico, and the locations and events don't match the Spanish-American War which occurred in Cuba. The events would seem to be referring to the 10th Cavalry Regiment's involvement in the 1916 Pancho Villa Expedition of the Mexican Revolution which would have happened about 6 months before the musical premiered. I suspect that this is the military conflict being referred to, and that is why Mexico and Mexican spys feature in the plot and not Cuba and Cuban spys.4meter4 (talk) 15:26, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks User:4meter4. It's unfortunate the plays themselves often have not survived. It would be interesting to read the story and dialogue. I have updated the wntry text to reflect the sources above. Please make any additional changes you think are warranted. How old would civil war veterans be during the Mexican Revolution? I guess that's part of the humor? @FloridaArmy Thanks for updating the article. It could be humor or another mistake in the secondary sources. It could be that they were veterans of the Spanish-American War and not the Civil War; and the writers of the secondary sources claiming it was set during the Spanish-American War got confused on that point.4meter4 (talk) 15:49, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@FloridaArmy In piecing it together, this show takes place during World War I. The only conflict America/Allied Powers had with the Turks would have been during this war, and it fits with the timing of events of the Pancho Villa Expedition in 1916 in combination with Allied Powers opposing the Ottoman Empire in 1916 during World War I. It would have been a relevant plot to audiences in 1916.4meter4 (talk) 16:39, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lost show?

[edit]

Are the script and/or score for this musical lost? If so, the article should say so. -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:23, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
