What about a relationship or marriage to an alien (an intelligent non-human)? There are obviosly no examples f it happening, but some light should be shared on the subject. T.Neo (talk) 21:03, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How about examples of extraterrestrial watchmakers, or perhaps, even examples of extraterrestrials who enjoy lacrosse? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.14.134.193 (talk) 18:24, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored the larger sections, which are better sourced.--Auric talk 13:39, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

And I've removed them. This is nothing more than a grab-bag of gee-whiz borderline shock trivia. A serious article can be built from the serious sources listed at the AfD discussion -- see next section here. EEng 15:30, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I support the deletions by EEng. AfD agreed to keep the page, not all or most of the current content. Perhaps the better sources from the deleted material could be used to support the statement about people trying this. Editors who don't think the topic is very notable should not be required to build out a notable article. Legacypac (talk) 20:40, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To be clear, I was convinced during AfD that the topic is absolutely notable. But WP:TNT applies to the article as it was. EEng 20:56, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Good progress

[edit]

Thanks to CoffeeWithMarkets, the page is now beginning to look like an encyclopedia article. One last reminder re the sources listed at AfD (linked below). EEng 13:55, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and comment

[edit]

Thank you to those who have been working on this article. I may also contribute to it at some point when my schedule better permits.

One point that I have read that may likely be borne out by sources, although it will be of course necessary to find a source to cite: It's my understanding that in Western culture, human-animal marriage is regarded as more of a freakish thing because it is automatically associated with sex/ bestiality. In Eastern culture, it is not necessarily regarded in the same light. For example in some cultures people can supposedly marry their spirit animals and it is seen in a spiritual rather than a sexual context. Like I said this needs some good sources before it can be added to the article so I am not adding it now until such sources are found, but it's my understanding there are some sources that likely support (if I find one I will add) - and it may also be a reason why this article looked to some Western eyes like a "tabloid topic". One reference?

[edit]

This whole 'essay' is based on one reference? Doesn't make the encyclopedia look good. I might just buy the book.

Okay, read the reference and it states that in one folktale a mythical, fictional someone thought they were marrying an animal who actually turned out to be a human. This might be a notable topic, but no one has proven it yet. Best Regards,

Just to show what a nice guy I am, here are the suggested sources that were proposed in the deletion discussion that might demonstrate the notability of the topic.

Adding examples from folklore

[edit]

So since the article lacks a lot of facts and sources, I was thinking it might be appropriate to add examples from folklore and myths. There are plenty of sources on this perticular topic, so why not add some depth?
