Hello Mr. Smallwood, I reallly appreciate your work on the steamboat history for the Northwest that you have put out on Wikipedia. I am the great grandson of Arda Hunt of the Hunt Brothers steamboat line. I have noticed a couple of errors in the Hunt Brothers article you have written and I wonder if I can be of any help in giving you information for an update or is there a way that I can help edit the page? I am new to Wikipedia so forgive me for my ignorance on how to do this. The errors that I noticed so far are as follows:

  • The hull of the Sentinel was built at Crawford and Reid in Tacoma but the upper structure was completed in Gig Harbor by the Hunt brothers. This was the case for the Victor, and the Crest as well.
  • The Crest was built in 1899 but burned to the waterline in January of 1900 and was rebuilt and back in business by April. Arda rowed out to the Crest while it was on fire and chopped a hole in the side to force it to sink saving all but the upper works.
  • Arthur sold the Sentinel to the Hanson Brothers not the Merchants Transportation Company.
  • Arthur, Arda, Lloyd and Floyd started the Marine Supply Company on the Puyallup River and built both the Atalanta and the Ariel in 1912. We have the only know photograph of this business.

Of course I can provide verifiable references on all of the info that I have but I don't have them with me today. Most comes from the books, "Ships of the Inland Sea", "Early Gig Harbor Steamboats" and "Ferryboats-A Ledgend on Puget Sound" but I have a number of other sources as well. There is also a ton of information that is not contained in the article that I think would be great to add. Please let me know how I can help make this page a great history reference of one familie's contribution to the Mosquito fleet of Puget Sound.

Thanks again for creating this article. Graham Hunt --Pilothouse (talk) 20:34, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
