Who wrote the song?
[edit]- The original version was written by Sam Theard, but there are several slightly different versions performed by Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, and others.Konczewski (talk) 11:10, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
African Savages
[edit]The article states these are African savages. How so? How do we know they're not South Seas, Australasian cannibal savages? Or Sentinelese, off the coast of India, or indeed South American? The world in the 1930s was full of places where cannibals and all sorts of other savages were said to dwell. So why does this article claim Africa? There's plenty of dark-skinned curly-haired people living in jungles all across the world.
Louis Armstrong changing into one could simply because he's the star musician, it was rare for musicians to be featured like that in cartoons, it has been ever since, but Louis was a superstar and quite a catch for Fleischer. Louis is black like most popular musicians in the Jazz Age, and the enemy is merely dark skinned. Doesn't imply the one is supposed to be like the other. Louis was well-known as a playful fun-loving guy, and his versatile expressive face fits in well with Fleischer-style animation.
