Montage

[edit]

The photo looks a lot like it's a Photoshop montage.

It is indeed. The Iranian govt glosses over pictures that are meant for publicity all the time.--Zereshk 22:42, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

-- Then perhaps the article shouldn't include it, unless modified to mention it's just a publicity montage.

There are no Wikipedia laws against montages. However Wikipedia's policy actually only allows publicity photos if they are under "fair-use". Otherwise they will be deleted unless the photographer himself allows Public Domain or GFDL status.--Zereshk 11:11, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to Change Article Layout

[edit]

The current article layout section 2 doesn't make sense in context with 1, 3, 4, or 5. It should be with section 6 and doesn't seem like hearsay as demonstrated in the citation for the section would be more important than actual reliable, objective information about the organization.

Table of Contents at Current:
1 IRIB's place in Iran's civil code
2 Allegations of false confessions broadcast by IRIB [does this make sense here???]
3 Facts about IRIB
4 Affiliates
5 Director-Generals
6 Sanctions
7 See also
8 References
9 External links

Proposal to Change Header from "IRIB False Confessions" to Show Proper form as Allegations

[edit]

The cited information in this section does not show any fact finding or evidentiary result. The articles linked externally raise hearsay accusations without adversarial or objective finding of fact. Minimally, this section header should read "Allegations of..." or "Accusations of..." in the beginning. What reason is there to claim it as an affirmed fact? Lede Description Contradicts Itself & IRIB Doesn't Have a Monopoly

[edit]

Current Lede Excerpt (with my bold): "...is an Iranian state-controlled media corporation which holds a monopoly of domestic radio and television services in Iran, and is also among the largest media organizations in the Asian and Pacific regions, and a regular member of Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union.[2][3] IRIB is independent of the Iranian government, but its head is appointed directly by the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.[4]"

This organization can't both be state-controlled and independent from the government. The correct revision in line with the facts of the organization would be to remove the phrase "state-controlled". IRIB is actually an independent entity from the Iranian government, although its head is appointed by the Supreme Leader. IRIB also can't "hold a monopoly" if it is state-controlled, the state would then hold the monopoly if correctly phrased. It's also not true simply that IRIB is the only conduit of TV and radio broadcast in Iran domestically. For example, here is a publication licensed by the Office of the Supreme Leader inside of Iran without any IRIB production credits to it from a production company called Qarn 14: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12105406/?ref_=nm_flmg_arf_1. Here is the Production company's website: https://qarn14.ir/index.php/qarn/index_en . Can anyone show Qarn14 has a relation or affiliation between Qarn14 and IRIB?
