Proposed Merger
[edit]Can anyone give any reason not to merge this article with List of characters in Daria? To admit my bias, I think that a large number of articles whose subjects are fictional characters deserve to be merged (not all by any means, but a large number). This character is one of them. I don't see a number of third-party sources that establish the notability of this character, and I did check the fan site linked to at the bottom of the page but that isn't the kind of source I'm referring to. 128.223.131.21 (talk) 02:01, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it's a major character, unlike, perhaps "Andrea," "Corey," or even "Ted DeWitt Clinton." Again the question of "third-party sources" are being used in a bureaucratic manner as an excuse to delete articles... and you seem to love it a lot. ----DanTD (talk) 05:29, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not really concerned about your personal attacks against me. The point is this character is not notable enough for a wikipedia article. I am still looking for a reason not to merge this article if anyone has one. Man It's So Loud In Here (talk) 15:27, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Unless you're the same person as this anonymous IP number, I wasn't talking to you. ----DanTD (talk) 20:10, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yup that's me, if I'm at work I'm an IP. You need to assume good faith and have a civil discussion is all I am saying. The point I am making about the merger here is that this character doesn't seem to meet the notability requirements. I don't see what the problem is with keeping a paragraph or two about him in List of characters in Daria, and nothing more. It's great that people came together to write this page about him, and there ought to be a place on the internet for all this content - but it ain't here. Notability has to come from third party sources, and from reading this article it is pretty obvious the only source used was the show.Man It's So Loud In Here (talk) 22:28, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- If it's any consulation, I've been guilty of using anonymous IP's myself, usually when I think I'm signed on, or before I officially joined wikipedia. In any case, it would be helpful to allow people to actually add third-party sources before you decide to merge, redirect, or even delete them, even if those sources are just fansites. People like TTN never do that, and this is what bothers me about him. The same goes for Helen Morgendorffer, Trent Lane, the rest of the Lane family, Tom Sloane, and others. The series has had over 120 characters, so naturally I wouldn't have a page for everybody. ----DanTD (talk) 16:24, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

- and when one does merge, it helps to merge a sufficient amount of t he content--not necessarily everything, but enough to communicate the information about not just what happened in the episode, but the production details from the infobox. Plot is the most important, perhaps, but the external aspects are important as well. DGG (talk) 01:06, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Jake1.gif
[edit]Image:Jake1.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
