The "de" in de la in French names is typically uncapitalised. The article for this French-Swedish architect is written with a lowercase de in both frwiki & svwiki. Tomas e (talk) 11:55, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Support. Seeing as how the French, Swedish, and German Wikipedias all use de la Vallée, we might as well be consistent. It would be nice to find out first-hand from the subject, but since he's been dead for more than 300 years, I don't suppose we will ever know. •Life of Riley (talk) 04:33, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- Support and fix the de la Gardies while we're about it. Confusion arises because it can be De la Vallée when omitting the first name. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 06:12, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Jean de la Vallée was in reality Jean II Mollet
[edit]Simon de la Vallée had two biological sons. Henri de la Vallée and Gustav de la Vallée. Jean was the son of Pierre Mollet and Radegonde LeMercier, a younger sister of the architect Jacques LeMercier. André Mollet never had a son and died childless in England. The misunderstanding starts in Holland when Simon de la Vallée became the teacher of the young Jean instead of his uncle André. Jean was send to Holland by his grandfather Claude Mollet Sr. Claude Mollet did taken the same procedure with his grandson Gabriël Mollet, who was the oldest son of Claude Mollet Jr.
The fact that Jean II Mollet became Jean de la Vallée in Sweden was due to count Magnus Gabriël DelaGardie. Delagardie found out in Paris the real identity of Jean, visiting his dieing grandfather Claude. For fear of loss of face the count had ordered Jean to make up a document to underline his true nobility. These document where reason for the historian Sten Karling, to assume the surname of Jean was correct. All data can be found in the French national archive. 62.45.36.220 (talk) 23:17, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
