To Include

[edit]
  • Paleoclimate of Titicaca Basin

Stable isotopic data and diatoms from sediment cores of Lake Titicaca's main basin indicate major climatic changes occurred during Jiskairumoko's occupation. During the initial period of the site's occupation, the Lake Titicaca Basin may have experienced as much as 14-40% less precipitation than the modern amount. By 2000 cal BC, the precipitation had increased and the lake was beginning to fill in.

  • Geophysical research and archaeological investigation.

Ground penetrating radar led to the discovery of several of the pit structures, and served as a means to identify pit structures in parts of the site that were not excavated.

  • Changes in projectile point production with camelid domestication.

Failed Good Article Nomination

[edit]

I have failed this article's GA nomination for several reasons. First, while the article is not poorly written, the writing is also difficult to follow at times. For instance, much of the information needs to be more thoroughly explained. The Organization of Space, Ritual Preparation, and Development of Regular Trade Routes sections were all especially difficult to understand. I feel like I would need to have academic archaeological and socialogical education beyond what I currently posses to understand these paragraphs. The article should be written in a way that lay-persons can readily understand it, and I don't feel like it is. Additonally, there were some issues with the passive voice being used and the article would read more smoothly if those issues were eliminated. I specifically noticed the first sentence in the of Regular Trade Routes section as being written in the passive voice.

I also think that the article should have more references and footnotes. Many of the statements in the article seem speculative and should have sources to back them up. With the many reference materials listed at the bottom, it seems like additional cites should be relatively easy to provide. While I would prefer a citation after every sentence, I expect there to at least be one in every paragraph of a good article.

Finally, some parts of the article feel like original research. I don't think they are OR, but because the article appears to have been written largely by someone closely involved with the excavation, the article feels like it is. Senteces like "Excavation revealed differences in the internal organization of space between structures." sound like they came directly out of the research articles that must have been written by the individuals involved. However, since there are many sources listed below, I don't think these things actually are OR. I think that improving the writting and adding additional sources will probably solve the problem of the article feeling like OR.Dekkanar 21:10, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
