Hi,
This article is out of date and is need of an update. However, as I have WP:COI as a paid editor for Outcast, a firm that represents Lyft. Therefore, all my work should be independently reviewed and approved.
Requested changes in the new draft include:
- -Lyft in 300 cities, not 60
- -18.7 million rides a month, not 10 million total to date
- -Number of employees now at 1000
- -Capital raised is $2 billion
- -Found and added source for unsourced statement about MSFT Excel. Following sentence about timing of departure was not in the source.
- -Removed redundant sentence about founding of Zimride, covered in subsequent sections
- -Removed sentence about Lyft in Zimride section - very out of date stats about Lyft funding, number of rides, number if employees, etc.
- -Added sentence noting sale of Zimride
- -Added new paragraphs on growth of Lyft
- -Separated out funding into one section
- -Added Fortune and Vanity Fair to Awards and Honors
- -Added speaking engagement.
John Zimmer is the co-founder and president of the ride-sharing service Lyft Inc., which he founded with Logan Green in 2012, as a service of their company Zimride.[1] Lyft operates in more than 300 cities,[2] and provides 18.7 million shared rides a month.[3] The company has raised $2 billion in funding and employees about 1000 people, as of late 2016.[4]
Early Life ... While at Lehman Brothers, Zimmer spent most of his time creating real estate models in Microsoft Excel.[5] [Delete following two sentences.]
Zimride - Growth
Remove:
As of April 2012, Lyft has raised $7.5 million in funding, has facilitated more than 26,000 carpools, has helped users travel over 100 million miles, employs 29, and has created over $50 million in savings in vehicle operating expenses.
Add: In July 2013, Lyft sold Zimride to Enterprise Holdings, the parent company of Enterprise Rent-A-Car.[6]
Growth
Add:
Zimmer helped create Lyft’s playful elements like the pink mustache on cars, the “glowstache” in 2015, [7] and AMP to create a personal digital experience for passengers.[8] The pink mustache was retired by Zimmer in 2016.[7]
In August 2014, Zimmer and Green introduced Lyft Line, a ridesharing product that uses its existing driver network to transport passengers going the same direction at the same time. To incentivize riding together, Lyft Line offered passengers discounted costs.[9]
Zimmer intends to move Lyft toward self-driving cars and said in September of 2016 that he expected car services to be using the technology within three years.[10] Lyft began testing autonomous cars in San Francisco and Phoenix, in partnership with General Motors, late in 2016.[11] He said he expects a majority of Lyft cars would be self-driving within five years.[11]
Separate out new section: Funding [Content is the same except moved sentence about LyftLine to Growth section
