Who is Steve Doocey?

[edit]

To qualify as notable, the DJ should probably have a non-vanity wikipedia page. Steve Doocey should be considered for removal from that section, unless anyone knows who he is. - Thomas B 18:16, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No response in almost a month, so I'm pulling him. Thomas B 04:55, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Controversies and History

[edit]

I'd like to include a section on controversies KJHK has been involved in:

A DJ once brought on some members from the KKK. These KKK members asked for a large debate, and were asked to visit a class, all during Black History Month. Civil rights activists and white supremicists started heading to Lawrence to protest, riots seemed imminent. KU's team going to the final four/winning it apparently diffused the whole situation. (So this would've been, what, February 1988?).

Also, a DJ in the 1980s broadcast a report that Moline, IA was decimated by a nuclear attack. People reportedly panicked. The FCC was not amused.

I just need citations, and to put it in encyclopedic form first.

If anyone can fill in the history or notable awards, it'd be appreciated, it'd be nice to make the page a little less anemic. Thomas B 17:14, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think I covered most of the high points that I know of that I could find a reference for. If anyone knows of more awards or maybe some good pics that would help. NapalmSunday 06:59, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think the roots in 1952 as KDGU is notable, worth leaving in the article. There's a citation for it here: http://www.lawrence.com/news/2005/oct/10/alternative_flashback/
  • The power was recently reduced to 2600 watts, sadly. I'll work on a cite, believe it was in Spring 2006.
  • I'll also work on a cite for the KKK thing... (even if in my own slow way).
  • Your inclusion of the other historical information is very impressive, thanks for your work on this.
  • (I'm especially glad to learn who Steve Doocey is.)
