Birth year?
[edit]Is there clarity on this? The Guardian[1] states she was 37 when she died, which supports 1983 as originally stated. Espresso Addict (talk) 07:30, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
New Map
[edit]Just wondering if there is a current standard Wikipedia world map for use. The map in Karmia's article is at least 30 years old.Leveni (talk) 01:30, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- Leveni, did you actually take a look at the caption below said map? If you're aware of any more modern maps depicting the respective ranges of ethnic groups in Pakistan and surrounding countries, please don't hesitate to replace this one with it!Personally, I have yet to find anything of the sort, and I can't be bothered to make one myself at the moment; presumably the same applies to everyone else who isn't employed by a certain Western intelligence agency, so here we are. M Imtiaz (talk · contribs) 11:38, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
- M Imtiaz, My comment is NOT about the ethnic groups. It is about the map. The map that is being used is 30 years old. The Soviet Union is no longer with us. The map should have Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to the north but it doesn't. The "not authoritative" comment has nothing to do with the break up of the Soviet Union, it is about where the boarders lie between various countries. 30 years ago there were many disputed areas along those boarders and there still are many disputed areas today. Changing the words Soviet Union to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan would not invalidate the "not authoritative" comment. If a newer map, that has Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, is used, the "not authoritative" comment should probably stay because of the disputed boarder areas. I tried to redraw the boarder using the current map using microsoft paint, but it doesn't look good. The reason for asking if there is a current "official" Wikipedia map is for consistency. Wikipedia is done by volunteers, I doubt "Western Intelligence Agencies" have infiltrated Wikipedia yet. Leveni (talk) 22:50, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- Leveni, I wasn't referring to the "not authoritative" caption, but to the "ethnic groups" one, because I read your comment as implying that any more modern map would do.

... then for the second time, maybe actually take a look at the map before passing comment on it? Because had you done so, you would have very clearly seen that the map is explicitly listed as having been made by the CIA (source). Not that this is a problem in this case, of course, but for someone who seems interested in painting me as some sort of illiterate nationalist conspiracy theorist who has no idea of South and Central Asian geography, and allegedly doesn't know that Tajikistan and Uzbekistan exist, it might do you some good to actually perform some research first.A vector map like this one might work for your purposes; the task of actually drawing the extent of the Balochi people, though, would fall on you. ("We're all volunteers here; you can't just dump that job on me", you say? Well, again, maybe that's why nobody has gotten around to it yet other than (wait for it) Western intelligence agencies.)And if no such map can be produced, then one is led to aask themselves whether it is more relevant to the article to have a map that does actually show what constitutes Balochistan even if its depiction of the former USSR is outdated, or if it is more important to mark those latter boundaries at the expense of losing this central point, even though those countries don't even have Balochi populations (with interesting exceptions, of course). M Imtiaz (talk · contribs) 00:36, 19 January 2021 (UTC)- Anyway, the initial statement had to do with upgrading maps, nothing else. Just for future reference here is an interesting link Wikipedia:WikiProject_Maps and how about this for a map, [Map of Pakistan] is it to your liking? Also, one other point is, the map used in this article is incorrect. If we look at this map [| map of Iran] we can see areas which are uninhabited but are drawn in as inhabited by Baluchi's in this article's map. M Imtiaz Leveni (talk) 13:04, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Comments:
Thanks for submitting this article for GAN. I have put the article on hold because of some concerns that I have, listed below:
- The lede needs an expansion. The lede should be a summary of the overall article and include all major aspects. It surprises me that her death and subsequent investigation are not mentioned in the lede.
- The article needs information about her early life, including her birth and growing up. The info in the "Personal life" section might be merged with an "Early life" section
- I am confused over what she was an activist for because I am unfamiliar with the situation in Balochistan. Please expand upon her political ideology and explain what her goals were. This might require a very brief background of the situation in Balochistan.
- "over forced disappearances in the Pakistani province of Balochistan, where she carried a picture" Replace "when she" with "and"
- The 2014 interview quote doesn't explain her activism and is off-topic.
- "she raised issues related to" Can you be more specific? Did she speak to the council? Did she write a report?
- "mentioned Pakistan’s "occupation" of Balochistan." Per MOS:SCAREQUOTES Wikipedia avoids putting controversial words in scare quotes. Try to describe the situation neutrally or express that she calls Pakistan's actions an occupation.
- "Baloch was last seen alive on 20 December 2020." Can this be expanded? Who saw her alive? What was the situation?
- Reference 9: The title/author should not be in all caps.
Let me know if you have any questions. Z1720 (talk) 02:05, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
- The nominator has not responded to this review after multiple talk page notices, so I consider this GAN abandoned. They may nominate the article again when the above issues have been addressed. Z1720 (talk) 15:08, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
