Dr.

[edit]

Hello. Please explain, how does the woman possess a 'Dr.' title (in the beginning of the article)? I could not find any clue about her graduating as a doctor. The only notion about her education applies to BSc in Bangalore, India, and a master's degree in Australia. Something is missing in the article?

MK.

She has two honorary doctorates - mentioned in the article. --Gurubrahma 12:21, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again.

So these are so-called 'honoris causa' doctorates? Yes, I've read about them before. However in here [ Europe] NOBODY would ever call himself/herself a possessor of a doctoral degree having a honorary doctorate. It's treated ONLY as a merit, not as a degree. It doesn't allow any entitlement nor right - especially to boast of having a doctoral degree. There's more, using a scientific title, like a 'master's degree', without actually possessing that title, is subject of fines and/or jail. Please, answer, I am open for a discussion.

Hi, I dunno if she uses them but the media routinely appends the title. In India also, people generally do not append honorary doctorae titles to their name but AFIK there are no legal provisions governing this. btw, I believe that it'd be great if you can create an account for yourself on wikipedia. It hardly takes a minute and is very useful. --Gurubrahma 05:34, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly, Mrs. Shaw herself is not very discerning about the use of the title. Her bio on her company's webpage uses the 'Dr.' quite profusely. I think she finds it rather useful to have such an ambiguous title, considering the field of business she is in. --Cheeni 03:23, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Honorary doctorates are generally used as prefixes in India in politics and the arts, but not in business and administration. That her company website uses it is not significant for this article. Hornplease 07:45, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POV

[edit]

I've nominated this as an article that needs a bit of neutrality. The Bangalore section in particular seems a bit saccharine.Hornplease 07:45, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw mag.jpg

[edit]

Image:Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw mag.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
