I know that the word "British" is later in the article but it has to be part of the first initial so it sets the tone, I just added this. - Pernambuco 17:19, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cooling.

[edit]

" firing two 10,000 round bursts lasting 20 minutes at 500 rounds per minute."? That seems dubious to me. Absurd, really. I don't see how any single-barrel machine gun could possibly fire 20,000 rounds off in a single burst. The barrel would melt; at the very least, it would be so eroded by the time you were 5 minutes in, it would render the exercise pointless. Bun barrels heat up very quickly, and once they get hot, they begin eroding and degrading. 20,000 rounds without pause would leave the gun white-hot, if not literally melting. I'm thinking the phrasing of that sentence is mistaken...I'm guessing they fired off 20,000 rounds without cleaning or taking apart the gun, but I'm sure they let it cool down between 10-second bursts. I mean, really...no gun, unless it had a very effective external-resevoir liquid cooling system could possibly fire for 20 straight minutes without stopping. It can't be done..45Colt 15:53, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
