Questionable phrase in article

[edit]

A 2006 survey showed that 75% of Cypriots disapprove of homosexuality, and many still think that it can be 'cured'

Why does the word 'still' appear in this line? This is against WP:NOPOV. --Smart (talk) 23:38, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bias of 'Public promotion of LGBT issues in Cyprus' section

[edit]

Upon reading the section, I came to a conclusion that it is biased, and written from a liberal point of view. I have found these statements as the most biased:

  • "As a LGBT rights organisation in the nation it has been successful in helping to repeal the civilian criminal prohibitions regarding homosexuality."
  • "[...] to deal with the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer LGBT people in Cyprus north."
  • "It has the support of several concerned citizens, assisted by various interested NGOs, the European Parliament and foreign Embassies operating in Cyprus." No opposition to the organisation?
  • "The ambassadors of Sweden, the Netherlands and the United States intended to take part to mark the occasion." The word 'occasion', in my opinion, is most biased in this sentence.
  • "Only a few hundred were expected, but in the end thousands joined the festivities." Makes the reader think it had a happy ending.
  • "Police kept protesters at bay and no marchers were harmed."
  • "During a press release, CCEPT-LGBT Cyprus President Costas Gavrielides expressed his surprise and joy at the turnout, but also his annoyance with the Civil Partnership Bill not being submitted to Parliament despite news of a possible April vote." In my opinion, this doesn't need to be inserted into the article.

The section does not apply any weight onto the other side of the story, and it gives only one viewpoint. In my opinion, I can't apply weight onto the other side of the story, due to me not being able to speak Greek or Turkish. Can someone please fix the neutrality of this section? – Plarem (User talk) 12:09, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
