Lamas → Lamas (disambiguation) – So far as I can see, the plural form of Lama (Tibetan Buddhist teacher) is the primary topic for "Lamas", so the page Lamas should be a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to Lama. OpposeI'm not convinced that the Tibetan Buddhist teacher is primary for the singular given that the genus (which also has considerable long-term significance) gets 3,327 views compared to 4,947 for the teacher[[1]]. A Google search for "Lamas" (which returns a map of the Norfolk one, probably because of my location) is split between the teacher and genus and other meanings while an Images search is dominated by the genus. While I agree plural forms should normally redirect to the singular equivalent article (WP:PLURALPT) it does now seem that the teacher is primary over the other common singular/plural generic term in addition to there being other uses on the DAB page[[2]]. @BrownHairedGirl: does this alter you're thinking? Should we put this move on hold and start an RM for the singular term and see if that succeeds since if it does that would probably render this somewhat moot. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:44, 23 June 2020 (UTC)- Neutral per below, the fact that the genus comes up on Google is a sign but indeed it doesn't appear to be a count noun. Given the Orange/Oranges example of WP:PLURALPT we could still redirect this title to the teacher even if the teacher is moved from the singular base name. - Support. I don't think that Lamas is a valid genus plural, because there is only one genus. Animals in the genus are llamas, not lamas. The remaining topics are little-known compared to the teacher concept. BD2412 T 00:05, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support. No indication that the genus is ever referred to by the plural "lamas" (possibly because there aren't two lama genera to pluralize?), and "lamas" does not appear in Lama (genus). -- JHunterJ (talk) 11:52, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose. The status quo is fine. It is not clear to me that the plural of Lama is the primary topic for "Lamas", and the disambiguation pages lists several uses of "Lamas" that are not a plural. Furthermore, enwiki has several articles with "Lamas" in the title used as a surname and not a plural. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 10:25, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose, for the same reasons mentioned by Shhhnotsoloud. When I first saw this entry in "Category:Requested moves", I thought the title "Lamas" was either a misspelling of "llamas" or a (singular) proper noun. The plural of "Lama" didn't cross my mind at all. I'm sure that the Tibetan Buddhist teacher counts as the most prominent topic of "Lamas", but I'm not convinced it's primary enough to justify redirecting there, instead of to a disambiguation page. 3 kids in a trenchcoat (talk) 02:05, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
