is this an encyclopaedia article or a fan page?

[edit]

This article is aweful. There is far too much gushy adulation. The tone is not appropriate for an encyclopaedia. Among many examples, consider:

"...they had witnessed something special, the likes of which would probably not be seen again."

Is it an encyclopaedia's job to make statements like this? Especially given that the likes of such innings HAVE been seen since (think of the record innings of other big hitters like Afridi, Richards, Botham...). Whoever put that in should think carefully about whether he/she possesses enough common sense to be writing for Wikipedia. Sorry, but this has to be said. This sort of thing gives Wikipedia a bad name.

There is also much irrelevance, e.g. "The infamous 'underarm' delivery, which ensured an Australian victory in the 'deciding' Third Final of the 1980/81 WSC competition, added to the Kiwis motivation to beat the Australians in their rematch: the 1982/83 WSC. However, it was not to be." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.125.60.123 (talk) 12:22, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It has been re-edited! With a some tidy deletions. A good job was done too. I must have been in love with Lance Cairns when I wrote the original article.

However, I still think the 1981 underarm incident was highly relevant to the 1982/83 WSC, and specifically Lance Cairns' motivation to do well. You'd probably have needed to have been around at the time to appreciate it.

Anyway, it's gone now, so forget it was even there.
