[edit]Most of his background appears to be unreferenced criticism. He does have some praise listed, but the section doesn't really describe his background. I see that most of the information, fact or not, has been added by users without log-ins. Go figure.Football79 02:25, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
The grammar is also poor, and the sentence about Al Davis seeming to be desperate needs to be cited or removed.

Youth
[edit]Does this really need to be in there?
"he also surpassed the New York Jets' Eric Mangini and the Pittsburgh Steelers' Mike Tomlin as the youngest head coach since the AFL-NFL Merger."
It follows the statement that he was the youngest head coach in NFL history, which would obviously mean he was also the youngest since the merger. Seems a bit redundant to me.--Cdman882 (talk) 17:52, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Tennessee Rumors
[edit]Please examine the following phrase, under the Departure heading: "He is currently believed to be in line to receive the head coaching position at the University of Tennessee and perceive by many to be greaty unqualified for that position." It's unrelated to the section heading, is based on unsubstantiated internet rumor, has 2 spelling/grammar errors ("perceive" and "greaty"), includes a judgement call about Kiffin's qualifications, and will need to be removed anyway within the next few days, whenever the University makes its selection official. Krcenter (talk) 14:23, 28 November 2008 (UTC)krcenter
- Removed. It's rumor in any case, and a crack like that doesn't belong as per WP:BLP. Dayewalker (talk) 15:06, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't think he was born in Bloomington
[edit]His father was an assistant at Nebraska in 1975... it's extremely likely he was born in Nebraska. -MichiganCharms (talk) 00:17, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- His Raiders Bio says Bloomington [1]. He was also born in May, well outside of football season.--Cube lurker (talk) 00:21, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm still not convinced... his family has zero ties to Bloomington aside from living there while his father worked for the Vikings. But whatever. -MichiganCharms (talk) 00:58, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- The infobox in this newspaper says the same thing.[2] I've googled and everything i've seen says Bloomington. I haven't found anything that says he was born in Nebraska. I don't know why he was born there, but I just haven't seen a single source to contradict the sources we have.--Cube lurker (talk) 01:04, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- He was definitely born in Lincoln, NE. MichiganCharms is right, there is absolutely no connection to Minnesota aside from his Dad's working there which wasn't until well after Lane was born. Google Lane Kiffin + Lincoln, NE. (Valpofan56 (talk) 08:39, 4 February 2010 (UTC)).

Remarks and Accusations
[edit]Does this article really need everything listed? Mentioning Brown on the radio is very minor and hardly worth mentioning. Secondary violations are very common, and most head coaches do not have every one listed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jde984 (talk • contribs) 18:14, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- The remarks section needs to be edited or deleted. So far all of the remarks are aimed at only showing negative comments and secondary violations. For it to be unbiased there need to be some of the other comments he has made or the section should be removed entirely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.198.77.118 (talk) 17:10, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Lane Kiffin is still the head coach of FAU and not Mississippi State. Please change it back to Florida Atlantic University. 129.2.181.128 (talk) 01:45, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Question Regarding Info Box
[edit]How come for people like Jim Harbaugh, Chip Kelly, and Herm Edwards we use an NFL-esque Infobox where with Lane Kiffin and Lovie Smith we use a college/college-coach style one? Shouldn't there be some consistency? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:CD8B:4360:6105:B6A2:E36E:5114 (talk) 19:48, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
