Underconstruction

[edit]

I'm translating the article from German. As I'm not particularly good in that language and I don't have that much time, it may take a long. As the souce[1] is really complete, please let me know if you want to edit the article, it may be a useless effort for both you and me (for making a decent edit and to integrate into the 'new' article, respectively). You can follow the progress of the translation in my sandbox, help or advise is obviously very welcome. Aelwyn 18:59, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you're working on the article in your sandbox, there's no use for the under construction template. That's to be used in cases when you're making multiple, rapid edits to the page. It's use alerts other editors to the fact that there may be edit conflicts. Plus, if it's taking a long time, you don't want that template on the page for weeks and weeks. This is why I've removed it. Cheers, --Rkitko (talk) 03:06, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image of seed pod

[edit]

As the seed pods are quite distinctive, it might be nice to have an image of them as well. I can offer the following. Shot it myself, and the license should be OK. ( kristian (talk) 20:11, 6 January 2012 (UTC) )[reply]

There is a photo in commons that isn't as nice, but is easier to add. If you can upload your photo to commons, then we could take it from there. The process for another person to satisfy the copyright checking is beyond my knowledge. Nadiatalent (talk) 13:39, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

"The specific epithet martagon is a Turkish word which also means turban or cap."

I am a native Turkish speaker and have not heard a Turkish word like "martagon" or something similar, neither it seems to bear Turkish phonetics. Dictionaries I have checked has no mention of such a word, closest matches having a meaning something like cap/turban were "marafat" and "marama" which are words in local dialects. It will be appreciated if a linguistic expert provides some clarification. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.45.12.68 (talk) 08:58, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have made some changes to this sentence. There is a reference in OED to martagan, an Ottoman Turkish word referring to a particular cap. However most other authorities seem to regard it as "of uncertain origin". Darorcilmir (talk) 12:16, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

I think references 16 and 18 are not serious enough to be quoted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.161.117.124 (talk) 07:50, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reference 17 does not say that Lilium martagon is toxic for cats; that's false. Thus, the phrase "Cats: Lilium martagon, like many in the genus, is highly toxic to cats and ingestion often leads to fatal kidney failure;[16][17][18]" has no documental basis and should be eliminated from the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.161.117.124 (talk) 10:50, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is no doubt that some lilies can be toxic to cats, and cause quite serious reactions. I'm not sure we have to spell this out in every single lily article. Maybe it would be better to have a brief link to the main Lilium article, instead. A couple of these refs look suspiciously like primary research. But the Guardian is a respected British newspaper - so there is no reason to remove it. Darorcilmir (talk) 12:21, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
