Andrena lauracea

[edit]

Another publication is in conflict with the statements made here about Andrena laurace, the andrenid bee. That publication states: "On the other hand, Robertson and Marlin each collected only one specimen of Andrena lauracea on Sassafras variifolium and Prunus serotina, respectively. Only two other specimens are known to science, both from Texas. It is reasonable to consider this species rare."

Marlin, J. C. and W. E. LaBerge. 2001. The native bee fauna of Carlinville, Illinois, revisited after 75 years: a case for persistence. Conservation Ecology 5(1): 9. [online] URL: http://www.ecologyandsociety.org/vol5/iss1/art9/

This publication suggests that four bees of that species have been found and the Illinois specimens were not on spicebush; perhaps the Texas specimens were. The species name of the bee--lauracea--sure suggests some link to spicebush. Since the information on this page is un-referenced, it is difficult to resolve the issue. I don't find much info on the bee on the Internet--other than the above article. Any thoughts? [[Pinethicket (talk) 23:31, 10 July 2009 (UTC)]][reply]

The above article looks quite reliable to me and I have written an article at Andrena lauracea mainly based on it (it, and one of Robertson's publications in google books, is all I found online). "lauracea" would appear to refer to Sassafras albidum which is the plant which Robertson found the bee on (which was once classified in Laurus). Thanks for spotting this error! Definitely a black eye for wikipedia to have bad information for so long, but at least we can correct it now. Kingdon (talk) 14:30, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That solves the mystery of the "lauracea" link--thanks! This is a classic example of why info needs to be referenced. It would be curious to see when the TX bees were collected. Maybe someone will expand the article. [[[User:Pinethicket|Pinethicket]] (talk) 14:58, 13 July 2009 (UTC)][reply]

Suggestions to Improve the Article on Lindera benzoin

[edit]

I went through the references and I noticed that a few of them are not cited correctly. I suggest corrections for them in order to give proper credit to the authors. Something else that could improve this article is the addition of the following headers in order to make the information more clear to understand, as well as more organized: -Taxonomy and -Distribution and Habitat of Lindera benzoin.VioletRoses27 (talk) 20:42, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
