Please see Talk:Alien: Covenant/Archive 1#Sequels, Talk:Alien: Covenant/Archive 1#Sequels, and Talk:Alien: Covenant/Archive 1#Brag(g)a on why the claims made here about the first sequel to AC to "cap" the prequel series cannot be found in the sources used here, and how the one September 2017 source ("Carl Braga") everybody is pointing to in order to claim the AC sequel would be "cancelled" or "delayed at best" is a more-or-less anonymous online forum post considered by several more authoritative sources as highly dubious, fishy, and questionable on the matter. Also see more recent interviews with Scott and articles dating 2018 and 2019 where he says he still intends to do more prequels and that say that there are several contractually obligated film deals between Fox and his company Scott Free that are still valid, solid, and honored after the Disney merger: [1], [2] In fact, Fox under the new Disney management is openly saying they're gonna go ahead with more Alien films[3], though they're a bit vague as to whether it's gonna be more Scott prequels (which is what the studio was hellbent at least up until the Disney merger, as they let Scott decide personally and singlehandedly to steamroll and bury Blomkamp's Alien 5 in favor of more of his prequels) or anything else.
There's a noticeable pattern here: In the past, Wikipedia has erroneously claimed for years that AC would be "cancelled" or refused to acknowledge existence of the production until pretty much the very day it hit theaters (in fact, as pointed out by one or several podcasts on AVP, many fans didn't even know about AC until weeks after its initial release because hostile trade press was acting just like Wikipedia on the matter). Now, it's obviously doing the same with all AC sequels.
All the times Scott has mentioned the Awakening title he's appeared to be thinking out loud, and the article you linked even says as much. The other article I've read where he mentions it isn't clear if he's instead talking about Blomkamp's film. We should wait for the studio to make an announcment instead of venturing into our own speculation. UpdateNerd (talk) 11:18, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong. See the linked talkpage discussions about Scott's misinterpreted quotes and what he's saying with them. He's *ALWAYS* said ever since the latter half of the 2000s that his prequels will be *AT LEAST* a trilogy, and ever since the release of Prometheus that there will be *AT LEAST* two or three more prequels after AC, as you can also see in the Digital Spy article that's as recent as 2018 when AC's box-office performance was already fully determined and analyzed. There are *SOME SOURCES* which leave out that latter part that Scott is always and to this day speaking of *SEVERAL* more prequels after AC, in order to make it look like or fraudulently claim openly there will only be one single more prequel after AC, often in a similar fashion as Wikipedia and these trade press source for years have called AC either "cancelled" or refused to acknowledge the production's very existence until pretty much the very day AC hit theaters. But such spurious reporting by purposefully leaving out important aspects while only selectively quoting those parts from interviews that, if taken out of context, may look like they serve one's personal agenda should not be a role model for Wikipedia.
Plus, you're ignoring the fact sourced by the Deadline article that Fox has declared as recently as 2019 that they have several on-going film contracts with Scott Free Productions and say they're still honoring them also after the Disney merger, which, as you can also see at the Deadline link, comes at a time when Fox will from now on only release 4 theatrical movies and 4 streaming movies per year. In other words, Fox under Disney pretty much declare Scott's involvement and further Ridley Scott films as one of their most valuable key assets in the near future and the mid-run, at a time when Scott has kept saying allthroughout 2016 and 2017 that what he wants to do more than ever is do *AT LEAST* three more Alien prequels after AC and do them as soon and as fast as possible, and where he's also said repeatedly that the only thing he fears that it could endanger that prospect would be the Disney merger. But as the Deadline article shows, especially in combination with the Hollywood Reporter article, his fears seem to have been unfounded.
So think again: With at least three or four more Ridley Scott films for Fox currently in the contractually obligated pipeline according to Deadline, at a time when he says there's nothing he wants to do more now than more Alien prequels and the studio will only release 4 theatrical movies and 4 streaming movies a year, *AND* with Fox under Disney, according to Hollywood Reporter, talking about several new Alien films, do you find it more likely that Fox will even have the slots available to do the Blomkamp/Cameron thing *OR* more Alien prequels by Scott where we *KNOW* that he's planning several? --2003:EF:13C6:FE10:8CB3:1606:AFD3:A321 (talk) 23:12, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
1) Prometheus/Covenant cannot be prequels to Alien because they contradict it in some pretty major ways, from holographic technology to the nature of the Space Jockeys. They are a spinoff series taking place in their own continuity and a time period closer to the present, regardless of what Ridley Scott's original intent was or what his plans are for future movies.
2) By Alien 3, cholera had been eradicated for over 200 years. Since cholera still existed in 1979, this makes 2279 the absolute earliest year in which Alien3 can take place. Any materials which contradict this should be regarded as apocryphal and incorrect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.70.13.107 (talk) 00:49, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but that won't fly. 20th Century Studios refers to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant as the "Prequel Series", complementing the original four as the "Original Series", so that's what we're going with - not any fan theories. DÅRTHBØTTØ (T•C)18:54, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
