Number of racecourse in Great Britain

[edit]

Have just made the number of courses mentioned in the lead 58, although it's debatable and the BHA's own website mentions both 58 and 59 courses. I think the contention is that Newmarket is a single venue but has two courses, so could be counted either way. The Racecourse Association goes for 59 as well. --Bcp67 (talk) 12:44, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Northern Ireland Courses

[edit]

Not sure at all that NI courses (specifically Eglington in this list) should be sporting an English flag. The least contentious NI flag seems to be the Saint Patrick's Saltire (...can't be flown on UK&NI buildings, largely disavowed by Nationalists as an English construct, not the Union flag but part of it) and the Flag of St George has to be the MOST contentious. I'd be happy to see all the flags go to be honest - not a great fan of flags on articles as I don't think they add a great deal of value and tend to cause more problems than they solve. This one is a good example. I agree that one shouldn't have an English flag anyway. Eglinton might not even be correctly described as a Northern Ireland racecourse - not sure when it closed but it might have been before any such entity existed. --Bcp67 (talk) 19:04, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Croxton Races

[edit]

Aka Croxton Park Races. At the moment a search on WP for Croxton Park redirects onto Croxton, Cambridgeshire. Would guess this needs a disambiguation page instead offering that page and, say, Croxton Kerrial which mentions Croxton Park and the racecourse. County

[edit]

Should historic or ceremonial/lieutenancy/preserved be used. I’d happy go through them, at the moment Welsh and Scottish political areas are sometimes used. Chocolateediter (talk) 14:40, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Blaydon Races

[edit]

What about Blaydon? It must be one of the most famous of the 19C closures. I don't have a copy of Whyte, but will look for other sources. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:42, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
