Honorary degrees

[edit]

The list of honorary degrees is notable independent of the notability of the individuals honored. Each person on the list is notable for having received an honorary degree, even though they might not be otherwise notable enough for independent Wikipedia articles. I have restored the complete list, but removed the redlinks. --Curtis Clark (talk) 15:43, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How does that make them notable? Just because Cal Poly Pomona considers the person notable (by giving them a diploma) doesn't mean they are notable by Wikipedia's standards. tedder (talk) 15:47, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I never, ever said they were notable by Wikipedia's standards (although some might be if an editor did the legwork). California State Polytechnic University, Pomona academics doesn't just list the colleges that have Wikipedia articles; it lists all of them. The list of impacted majors in Cal Poly Pomona doesn't just list those impacted majors with Wikipedia articles, it lists all of them. Likewise, it seems silly to only list those recipients of honorary degrees who have Wikipedia articles. There's no rule against listing non-notable (by Wikipedia standards) members of notable groups--it happens commonly with bands and TV series.--Curtis Clark (talk) 06:32, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Satoshi Nakamoto, alleged or not?

[edit]

Regarding this. I think we need some kind of hedge in the description, given that the guy himself denies it. I don't think "alleged" is the right word, though, nor do I think "founder" is exactly right. I'm not sure what we should say, but we do need a place to talk about it, so here we are!— alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 21:27, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure where he fits

[edit]

I'd like to add Louis Rosenberg (writer) but I'm not sure where he fits. He's faculty but he's been on leave. Does someone with more experience on this article want to decide where to put him? WCS100 (talk) 03:43, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

He's essentially the father of augmented reality, in case that matters. WCS100 (talk) 04:14, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
