Glenn Lott - Drake football All-American

[edit]

I have a concern. Glenn Lott, 2-year All MVC linebacker, 1975 All-American football safety, played in Coaches All-American game in 1975 and is the 3rd highest NFL draft pick (‘75) in Drake University history behind only Johnny Bright and Pug Manders. Glenn Lott was the 50th player drafted in the second round in the 1975 NFL College Football draft by the Buffalo Bills. And he is considered an NFL veteran. Glenn Lott was starting safety on Montreal Allouettes in the Grey Cup championship game in 1975-1976. He went on to get his Masters Degree in Business from Central Michigan University. He is currently a retired Director of Manufacturing at Fiat Chrysler Corporation. He is an honorably discharged non-commissioned officer of the USMC. He was editor of the newspaper of the Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit training depot in Parris Island, SC. I enrolled into Drake in 1971 pursuing a degree in “techniques of coaching”. Yeah techniques of coaching is where they placed ALL BLACK athletes to “ keep them on the field”.Four years later in 1975 I graduated from Drake University with my degree in Journalism-Public Relations. The only help I got was from Jim Duncan. Ask around. Somebody will tell you about Jim Duncan. If I recall I may have been the ONLY African-American student-athlete to graduate in four years! Because at that time there wasn’t too much assistance available for a young Black man being uprooted from an impoverished single parent home in Alton, IL with no father or other male guidance. And the first member of my family to graduate from college. To come to an over 95% white college campus in Des Moines, Iowa. My concern is why am I not mentioned in notable alumni. Or notable Drake football players. I noticed you have Mike Samples mentioned. I was a captain on the same team with Mike Samples. Bill Stevenson. I was the captain of that team. Doug Winslow. I played with him my first year. I was a two-year captain of Drake football teams. None of those players was drafted higher than me. None of those players played in college all-star games. I did. So can this discrimination against Glenn Lott stop. You don’t need my permission to add me to your list of prominence. Why would I not be a notable alumni. How many Drake footballers get drafted in the first or second round? I will tell you. In the history of of over 100 years of Drake football there have only been 3. I am one of them. Seems notable to me. Oh, and I also played basketball. Who will respond 2600:8800:202:CE00:8951:37D9:C0E2:2699 (talk) 19:16, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
