Use of Caste in biographies and lists- does it require the individual's self-declaration?

[edit]

Hi, request those who are watching this page to contribute to the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Caste_identification on whether mentioning a person's caste (Jati) requires that person to explicitly say that he belongs to XX caste (like in the case of religion and sexuality), or whether caste identity is objective and knowable enough (like ethnic background) to be ascertained without producing proof that the person said he is of a particular caste. For example, can we identify Sachin Tendulkar as a GSB based on magazine and newspaper articles or do we need Sachin Tendulkar to come out and say that he believes in the caste system and that considers himself a GSB? Please give your opinion in the above linked page. Sreejiraj (talk) 19:49, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting of information

[edit]

Suggest that we discuss reasons for deleting any info before we do so. Apparently some info was deleted even by those people, who, by virtue of their being native of same place as GSBs, would have little difficulty in verifying authenticity of the information. Name of poet/ critique late Ramesh Tendulkar was deleted, though their son's name (Sachin Tendulkar) is still there. Do not think it is appropriate to delete info in respect of individuals, for whom wiki pages are still not created, - more so as this does not seem to have been done on other similar wiki pages... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.237.161.161 (talk) 21:03, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Friends , I am not belonging to your community , I belong to Gomantak Maratha samaj Community(mageshkar Lata and Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, sumant mulgavkar)

, forget past and come together to create new world , I believe in Barac Obama's thought those who behaved improperly they didn't know what they were doing , and on whom improperness were happened they were not in sence that what was going/happening to them .

now , your community is highly intelligent in Economics, banking ,Finance and Information technology and in other things also . but still in Goa , people are rigid , why mangeshkar's are not allowed to go in Garbha Kudi of Mangeshi temple ? Why ? , for last 85 years WE (Gomantak Maratha samaj ) stays in Maharashtra and I would like to give my (or proud to give) my Introduction as Marathi not at all konkani . Also names (SurName) is different issue , we have to solve that by coming together . REcommended Books :- MI Kaun?:- Rajaram Paiginikar , Purushartha:- Waman Radhakrushna . waiting for your reply, bakul paigankar — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bakulpaigankar (talkcontribs) 05:29, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page move discussion

[edit]

Pages and categories relating to the GSBs have been repeatedly moved around various titles by people who disagree with the spelling of Goud. I have initiated a discussion here. Feel free to participate but when it is complete please also abide by the outcome. Any future undiscussed attempts to move these pages are likely to lead to sanctions being imposed per WP:GS/Caste. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 08:40, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is Sachin Tendulkar a GSB? Was actress Priya Tendulkar a GSB?

[edit]

If so we need to add with proper citations.-Acharya63 (talk) 08:39, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

He is but since he is a living person, you will need a source where he confirms that he belongs to the GSB community.Otherwise,it most probably will be deleted. It might be easier to find a source regarding Priya Tendulkar's GSB heritage because she is not a living person.Nevertheless, take proper care with the sources. You know how much trouble I had to go through on my notable persons additions.Have a good day.Jonathansammy (talk) 14:48, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide citations for their caste so they can be added. If they are living people, the citation needs to be a self identification.LukeEmily (talk) 16:38, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
