Improvement to the article

[edit]

I think some of the issues with the article are now resolved. Are all three of the issues listed still present in the article? If so can they maybe be described in more detail so they can be addressed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tikopowii (talkcontribs) 21:19, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Last Name Verification

[edit]

I've added [citation needed] to all the family last names. Most of the cited last names have never been mentioned on the show. Lily has never been called 'Lily Pritchett-Tucker', for example, and Jay's family has never been called the 'Pritchett-Delgado' family. Normally this wouldn't matter, but considering that two of these families don't have any traditional naming styles, these assumptions can't be made. Also, they're a little sexist and unequal, when they're compared to each other. Claire, according to the article, took her husband's name, and her family is called the 'Dunphies'. But Cam and Mitchell have kept their names and are called the 'Pritchett and Tucker' family.theBOBbobato (talk) 14:58, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the last name issue, I'm ok with the last name assumptions as long as there is no evidence in the show or bio's to contradict. That said, in Season 2, episode 17, aired on March 2, 2011, "Two Monkeys and a Panda,"[1] There were at least 2 scenes with Mitchell and Cam regarding Lily's last name. Mitchell did the legal paperwork (he is a lawyer) that gave her the name Lily Tucker Pritchett, no hyphen. After the argument Mitchell did promise to get her name "fixed" and thus hyphenate it. Was it ever done? I don't know...Kosherdill1 (talk) 02:07, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

'Province of' Quebec

[edit]

In Dede Pritchett's article, it is said that she lives in 'The Province' of Quebec. This is not necessary, since the city of Quebec is never simply called 'Quebec', but 'Quebec City'. While, in French, the city is sometimes called only Québec, this custom doesn't apply to English because this is the English Wikipedia, and Quebec isn't even written as it is in French, with an accent. Normally this wouldn't matter at all, but someone obviously cares about this triviality and is reverting edits to the line. Dr. Miura section

[edit]

I believe the episode where Lily says "mommy" expresses that she learned the word from the doll and not that they mistook the dolls words for Lily's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.215.225.162 (talk) 18:21, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stella

[edit]

Please stop adding Stella to the article. A pet is not a supporting character. If this pet had a developed personality or voiceover like List of Married... with Children characters#Buck, it would be fine to include. Sottolacqua (talk) 16:59, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

True but Stella is a big part to modern family jay always choose Stella first before his kid before his wife so it may be exceptibel. Kat greeso (talk) 22:19, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Javier is absolutely not wealthy.

[edit]

I have no idea where whoever wrote this article got the impression that Javier is wealthy, but it is never alluded to, and, in fact, there are numerous cases where it is suggested that he is poor (for example, Gloria is talking about Javier as being unafraid of anything in the Season One episode "fear," and Jay says "but go to dinner with him and wait for the check to come. Then you'll see fear in his eyes. Like the waiter's a ghost"). I removed this accordingly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.219.39.47 (talk) 05:07, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Al Bundy Character Description

[edit]

Someone has replaced huge swathes of character description with copied/pasted descriptions of Al Bundy from Married with Children. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.180.218.78 (talk) 04:37, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ronnie and Amber

[edit]

I think we should add more info on the LaFontaines since they appeared in about 4 episodes this season. — Confession0791 talk 07:19, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Character infoboxes

[edit]

Are character infoboxes necessary? If so, why do we need a bunch of relatives' names in every infobox? One of previous revisions contained less names than the current revision does. Also, it used free images before IP users replaced them with non-free images, which are currently tagged with {{di-disputed fair use rationale}} (which I will discuss at another venue). Also, the infoboxes affect the space of this page, thus not allowing enough room for free images of the individual cast members. George Ho (talk) 08:36, 22 December 2017 (UTC); updated (see below), 05:07, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I reinserted the free images. Still, the long list of relatives affect the spacing between sections, so {{clear}} is used in every section (though I didn't add them). George Ho (talk) 05:07, 26 December 2017 (UTC); edited, 05:10, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@George Ho: I think it's time for the infoboxes to either be severely trimmed or removed altogether. Content keeps being added to their relative sections by various IPs that 81) might not be true or verifiable, and (2) is more trivia/fancruft than encyclopedic content. If infoboxes are needed than perhaps only the most eseential parameters should be kept and everything else dumped. It might be a good idea to post a {{Please see}} about this on WT:TV to get feedback from more editors. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:53, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I already did one month ago, Marchjuly. Seems that there's not much input from them (yet). George Ho (talk) 02:26, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I didn't know you'd already posted there. Maybe then we should just be bold and remove/trim as deemed appropriate, and then leave a link to this discussion in the edit sum. I could see removing the relative information at the very least and leaving the other stuff, but I could also see agree to removing the entire infobox as well. Any preference? -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:00, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was bold on removing infoboxes about fictional pets. Unsure about what to do with infoboxes about youngest characters, like Joe Pritchett and Lily. I thought about removing the names of most relatives as they are not very relevant to those characters, but I'd like second opinions. Alternatively, how do we properly collapse the names of relatives? I tried using {{collapsed infobox section begin}}, but the templates affected the cell margins of the "Relatives" portion. George Ho (talk) 03:58, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
All of the info about fictional relatives is sort of like a Help:Family trees for a fictional character; personally, it all seems superfluous to me and more likely something you'd find on a fan page than an in encyclopedic article. If these characters had their own stand-alone articles, then it might make sense to include some of that info, but it seems excessive for a list article. I watch the show and understand that part of its appeal is all the intertwinning branches of all of families, but the relative section for the infoboxes is starting to get a bit ridiculous. If the infoboxes are going to be kept, then, in my opinion, (1) the photos should be moved there and (2) all of the "information" parameters should be removed. Look at some of the articles in WP:FL#Cast members; none of them seem to contain even a third of the fancruft that this one does. I realize the FA is a pretty high standard, but such articles can be useful as a guide in cases like this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:32, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Even when I haven't watched the show, I used my sense and removed names from some infoboxes as irrelevant to individual characters. George Ho (talk) 06:22, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
