Sources
[edit]I have sourced the list in accordance with Wikipedia's No Original Research and Verifiability policies. Basically, anyone described by a reliable source as "Native" or "Native American" (i.e. as opposed to "of Native American descent", "Native American mother", etc.) is on the list (anyone described as a specific tribe, i.e. "a Cherokee", is also good). Here are the people I couldn't find anything for. If you have a reliable source that fits that please restore the names:
- Aaliyah
- Joseph Ashton
- Eric Balfour
- Kim Basinger
- Benjamin Bratt
- Johnny Depp
- Cher
- Kevin Costner
- James Garner
- Crystal Gayle
- Larry Hovis
- Angelina Jolie
- James Earl Jones
- Ashton Kutcher
- Hyapatia Lee
- Crystle Lea Lightning - Canadian
- Loretta Lynn
- Gavin MacLeod
- Demi Moore
- Lou Diamond Phillips
- Elvis Presley
- Chief Tahachee
- Jonathan Winters
- Kari Wuhrer

- I have sources for some of these names but any way a good number of the names listed have no reliable sources. I giving this one day to be corrected or the names will be removed. (largely because i don't have the time to find sources for all these names on my own). Also Angelina Jolie is not of native blood her father confirmed that in an interview more than once.Mcelite (talk) 06:05, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
What about Patrick Shining Elk? http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0793942/bio

She says here that she is a California Mission Indian. I think her name should be added to the list. PMLF 02:11, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Chief Dan George
[edit]About whom I know nothing, but I have seen every movie he was ever in--why is he not listed here? There must be tons of media sources about him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.21.149.252 (talk) 20:37, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- Chief Dan George is Canadian, so on the List of First Nations actors. Rmhermen (talk) 17:40, 24 May 2016 (UTC)

Hidden page instruction
[edit]There is a commented page instruction at the top of the article, placed in May 2006 by Jack O'Lantern, that only persons with pre-existing WP articles be included. Given that that instruction still exists on the page after a decade, I assume that it is a valid rule for this article. There are currently two entries on the page that violate this rule, and one is supported by an improperly formatted IMDB cite (IMDB is an unreliable source and should not be used as an inline cite for biographical info). My inclination is to immediately remove both, but one was added by Rmhermen, who has done a lot for this article. So I'm posing this here: Is Jack's instruction to be regarded as a valid rule, and may I remove the nonconforming entries? I'm well aware that the attitude has shifted regarding redlinks, but Jack's instruction would appear to make this article an exception (I have no problem with that because it has been proven time and again that any list article without such a rule will become a cruft dump for every non-notable individual anyone cares to add). - It's possible I'm thinking of another page, but I thought policy was only those with articles, and that they have to be sourced as Native American according to WP:NDN-RS standards, which is why we wrote the essay about sourcing Indigenous identity on WP in the first place - to help with cleanup on these lists and bios. This one looks to need work in that area, so I've flagged it for cleanup. - CorbieVreccan ☊ ☼ 19:38, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
Disruption by IP-hopper - Semi-protecting page
[edit]I've semi-ed the page as it it's a pretty wide range to block. I'm pretty sure I've edited here in the past, so if anyone would rather a different admin do it, feel free to address it here or at WP:RFPP. Best, - CorbieVreccan ☊ ☼ 19:34, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
