How detailed should the character descriptions be?

[edit]

Many of the character descriptions seem to include ramblings about the entire plot of the series. How detailed should these descriptions actually be? Should the page serve as a simple introduction to the characters and leave people to discover the rest as they read the series, or are the descriptions supposed to be this detailed?

For example, Jack's description spoils half the series in the second sentence. Is this something that should be edited or left alone?

I'm hesitant to edit such a large amount of text if the better option would be to remove it instead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chairom (talkcontribs) 00:39, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:SPOILER, but in short, do not remove plot details on the pretense that they may be "spoilers". Character descriptions should be a short summary of the character and their overall role in the plot while avoiding trivia—such as body measurements, birthdays, etc.—unless they affect the plot. —Farix (t | c) 03:16, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I reverted this edit as you made it clear in the edit summary that you removed plot details on the pretense that they were "spoilers". This is not acceptable per the spoiler guideline. While plot summaries should be concise, they should also be complete (or as complete as possible for an ongoing series). That means it mentions all major plot details, even if some may consider them "spoilers". —Farix (t | c) 03:21, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I understand, but could you or someone with a bit of free time take a quick look at some of the descriptions in the character page and let me know if they could do with some editing? I feel like there is a lot of superfluous information, and they should be more concise, but again, I don't want to start making changes that will end up undone.
Same for the plot section of the page that was reverted. Since most of the anime and manga pages on Wikipedia only provide an introduction to the series' plots, I assumed that was the standard. I didn't notice the spoiler policy, so sorry about that. I did make sure my edit was as spoiler-free as possible, but the main reason was to make it more concise due to all of the minor details (hence how I described the edit). Can someone take a look at that and determine if it should be edited as well? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chairom (talkcontribs) 06:46, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
