[edit]I came to this page because I thought these people were Ancient Macedonians from the modern-day Republic of Macedonia (RoM). I was confused to find that all of these people are considered Greeks.
I realize not that this is because nobody has bothered to disambiguate between 'Ancient Macedonians (RoM)' and 'Ancient Macedonians (Greeks)' ... Since this page does not clearly state which of these two ethnic groups these people are ancestors of, I have clicked through most of their pages, (including Alexander the Great), and found that they are all described as greek.
I am adding the term greeks, so that people coming here looking for Ancient Macedonians (RoM) are not confused.... --173.209.149.42 (talk) 12:59, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
- I hate to tell you this, but the consensus in Academia is that all ancient Macedonians are considered Greek.
- You will have a hard time convincing people that Ancient Macedonians are ancestors of modern-day Republic of Macedonia / FYROM. Ancient ethnic macedonians as self-described by modern-day slavic macedonians , are descended from Bulgarians. RoM/FYROM is no more arguably no more then 100 years old, and by most standards less then 20 years old.
- I will however agree that adding the 'Greece' descriptor on this page reduces confusion. I have also clicked through many names on this list, and they are all identified as Greeks on their individual articles, Particularly the most famous ancient Macedonian.
- The lead in its current form -- "This is a list of the ancient Macedonians of Greece (Greek: Μακεδόνες, Makedónes). For other uses, including a list of people from modern-day Republic of Macedonia see List of Macedonians" is more descriptive then "This is a list of ancient Macedonians (Greek: Μακεδόνες, Makedónes). For other uses, see List of Macedonians". The earlier lead may suggest to the UNINFORMED reader that the people on the list are somehow related to the modern-day Republic of Macedonia / FYROM. As wikipedia is a place where people come to learn, many readers are uninformed, and it is always best to be as accurate and descriptive as possible. Especially when there is so much confusion about the term 'Macedonia'. -174.117.97.72 (talk) 02:15, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- By the way, I think the best lead would say "This is a list of ancient Greek Macedonians....", but i am new to wikipedia and don't know how to change the text of a link and link to a page with a different name. Can someone help ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.117.97.72 (talk) 02:28, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Addition of extra 'text' under "For other uses, see List of Macedonians"
[edit]Hi Admins,
Is it possible to lock down this page? I've noticed a few additions of text under the "For other uses, see List of Macedonians" that was not there a few weeks ago (e.g. "Macedonia Never Greek"); things like this are unwanted political machinations that do not need to be on this page.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
