iRows

IRows was not an acquisition: John Vandenberg 06:14, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Removed your reference John as the article in question is full of Viagra links. --Jdevalk 23:06, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Fwiw here's an extract from the relevant blog post:

As the title says, we have decided to join Google.

We are really excited about this transition. When we started iRows, we wanted to do something that would make the web a better place, provide people with better tools, something that is both useful and fun (most people may not think spreadsheets are fun, we do).

We launched iRows in January, and will shut it down on 31-Dec-2006. This has been a very busy year for us. We would like to thank all of our users who have been with us throughout the year, sent us ideas, suggestions, bug reports, or just kept using our product.

Being at Google will allow us to continue doing what we love to do best but on a much larger scale. There is a lot of exciting work at Google waiting for us.

We no longer accept new registrations. If you have created spreadsheets on iRows, you will need to move your spreadsheets to Google Docs & Spreadsheets. Below you can find instructions how to move your data.

Thanks again,

Itai and Yoah

This has been reported two ways. Some news sources report a "purchase" while others report hiring the founders. "Google Buys Israel Start-up iRows" "Google draws in iRows" "Google swallows another app maker" Lemon Lover 22:50, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
The reports that are saying "purchase" are all wording it their statements using the future or present tense; 'Google is planning to buy' and 'Google is buying spreadsheet maker iRows'. I think we should wait for a bit longer for a more conclusive source.
I do think that iRows belongs on this list, but it needs to be added in such a way that doesnt mislead the reader. John Vandenberg 23:59, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

DoubleClick

According to http://today.reuters.com/news/articleinvesting.aspx?type=bondsNews&storyID=2007-04-14T014524Z_01_N13256678_RTRIDST_0_DOUBLECLICK-GOOGLE-UPDATE-3.XML&pageNumber=1&imageid=&cap=&sz=13&WTModLoc=InvArt-C1-ArticlePage1 Google did not acquire it yet. It says " The all-cash deal, coming just six months after Google paid $1.65 billion for video-sharing site YouTube, is due to close by year-end, once it has the necessary regulatory approvals." Behun 03:08, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I've removed DoubleClick from the article. Thanks. Martin Porcheron need help? just ask! 19:28, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Comment. I almost added doubleclick again, but thought that it can't be that it was missed and checked the talk page first. I figured that it must have something to do with the fact that the acquisition is not a done deal yet. However, I believe others will also think that it is missing. We might want to add a section in the article with acquisitions in progress, but not 100% completed yet. I guess there will be more to come in the near future. What do you think? --roy<sac> Talk! .oOo. 23:56, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Agree I agree with you roy. People will be looking for that, so it should be mentioned as a possible deal. LinguistAtLarge 22:40, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I've added this section for the unclosed deals and i've added the DoubleClick deal to the list. Martin Porcheron need help? just ask! 16:10, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
sweet! --roy<sac> Talk! .oOo. 05:18, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Can it be made clear that the new section is only for confirmed but not yet closed deals? I can see that becoming a rumours mill... John Seward 10:08, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
comment. I was bold and added an intro paragraph to explain what pending acquisition means. Please review and tweak. Thanks. --roy<sac> Talk! .oOo. 21:52, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
See, next acquisition confirmed but not yet closed. Feedburner.com hehe. Good that we have the new section. --roy<sac> Talk! .oOo. 21:42, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

source for Grand Central dollar figure

Where is this $45 million figure coming from? As I understand it, the terms of the deal were undisclosed and the linked source doesn't cite a dollar number. Bobbyi 23:46, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

This page has many capitilization errors - could someone please fix them? Kungming2 01:30, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Merge this document into Google (main article) - Adil

Sounds like a good idea. Also sounds like a pain to do. Dstanfor 20:20, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Is Tusli acquisition real?

The reference was empty and I couldn't find anything on a google search about it. I have removed the suspect reference and added 'citation needed'. Should entry be removed altogether?.PeterIto (talk) 14:05, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Audit and citation cleanup

I have updated to format used for citations for the last few entries. Is it appropriate to propagate this through the article? Would it also be useful to audit the page and ensure that all the facts are verified by the provided references (including price paid when a claim is made - I see someone questioning the Grand Central valuationPeterIto (talk) 14:05, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

OK, I have now been through the article updating all the citations to the current format and have spotted and corrected various poor references, both coding mistakes and references to URLs will little content where better ones were available. I haven't yet been through to ensure that every reference confirms every presented fact. PeterIto (talk) 20:55, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Baidu

Um... someone just put Baidu was aquired by google... wtf? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mercury888 (talkcontribs) 14:17, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Youtube => Google Videos

The acquisition of youtube as far as I know did not lead to integration into google videos infact some time after the acquisition google discontinued there own service. Agamer (talk) 17:07, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

This is correct, sort of. Google Video started before the YouTube acquisition, therefore it is not a derived service of YouTube. Also Google Video is still operational. 81.101.249.192 (talk) 19:15, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

AOL

I don't know if saying that AOL is a valid acquisition of Google. They only purchased a 5% stake in the company. It's still owned by TimeWarner. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.169.139.88 (talk) 02:12, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Derived services column

I think the "Derived services" column needs a better name, because the acquired technologies are more often than not integrated into an existing service rather than made into a "derived service". "Derived or improved services" is the best I can come up with, but there's probably a better way to word this. Peaceduck (talk) 00:47, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

On2 Technologies & reMail

Merger agreed to by shareholders today, updated information here On2 Technologies. And they also picked up reMail today [1]. --Xero (talk) 00:28, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

BumpTop

According to this posting on their homepage, BumpTop has been acquired by Google. --68.45.218.70 (talk) 18:23, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

It's not at all clear though that BumpTop is destined to be part of Chrome or ChromeOS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Medberry (talkcontribs) 15:22, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

For this entry, it is unclear that Bump Technologies is not these folks: http://bu.mp and is instead about BumpTop: http://bumptop.com/ Can we have this row edited to reflect a more accurate description of the product Google purchased? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cosmicdreams (talkcontribs) 04:24, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Simplify Media

Google just announced that they acquired Simplify Media and will be integrating their media streaming technology into Android. --Xero (talk) 16:24, 20 May 2010 (UTC) Alright, I updated it. Thanks for the tip. yoman82 (talk) 18:58, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Isn't that a duplicate? Now rows 64 and 70 of the table seem to refer to the same thing. MartinPoulter (talk) 20:49, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

It is indeed a duplicate !! --192.122.131.20 (talk) 09:37, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

AdMob

why is the aqusition of AdMob not mentioned (or have I gone totally blind?) googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/weve-officially-acquired-admob.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.247.250.25 (talk) 21:14, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

google-backed ventures

What about Google-backed ventures, like SCVNGR? Should they be listed here? Is there a list of google-funded ventures? --Rakerman (talk) 19:04, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I don't understand, why can't I edit the article?

I don't understand, why can't I edit the article? What exactly is a "discussion page" that I'm editing now? I know of at least one missing company (which was one of their most significant acquisitions and was acquired by Google in March 2006). Why can't I edit? Isn't editing by average Joes the whole point of Wikipedia? I am new to this, so I'm sorry if I'm missing something. Maybe I need to create a username? But I thought wikipedia was based on the idea that *anyone* can edit. Besides, I tried to create a username but it wouldn't let me use my e-mail address as my username, and I refuse to have hundreds of AOL-esque usernames to memorize. I only sign up for sites that let me use an e-mail address as a login. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.103.1.10 (talk) 15:37, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

2002?

Nothing happened in 2002? --Jambalaya 20:32, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

not 2002 but missing in the list http://mashable.com/2010/12/13/google-zetawire-acquisition/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.141.33.226 (talk) 17:53, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Nijinsky

What is this? The reference is just a copy-paste from the previous acquisition.Rmvt (talk) 12:30, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Sparrow

I added the row for Sparrow, but I'm having a hard time establishing if the company American or French.

Resolved? This Business Spectator article references them as a French startup.

The price was "$25 million" according to The Verge

DMarc redirection?

Why does 'DMarc' redirect here?

Also there needs to be more clarity over whether DMarc is a company, standard, initiative, whatever. Seems like a group has taken over the name of a part of a network connection... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.222.8.34 (talk) 07:43, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Robotics acquisitions

Mr. Rubin has secretly acquired an array of robotics and artificial intelligence start-up companies in the United States and Japan.

Among the companies are Schaft, a small team of Japanese roboticists who recently left Tokyo University to develop a humanoid robot, and Industrial Perception, a start-up here that has developed computer vision systems and robot arms for loading and unloading trucks. Also acquired were Meka and Redwood Robotics, makers of humanoid robots and robot arms in San Francisco, and Bot & Dolly, a maker of robotic camera systems that were recently used to create special effects in the movie “Gravity.” A related firm, Autofuss, which focuses on advertising and design, and Holomni, a small design firm that makes high-tech wheels, were acquired as well. Acquisition of Motorola Mobility

Motorola Mobility keeps being listed on various Google pages, as if the acquisition has already been completed. This has been discussed on the Google main article Talk page.

I am removing Motorola Mobility from this list. " ... the merger is subject to various closing conditions, including antitrust clearances in Canada, China, Israel, Russia, Taiwan and Turkey." While the US, EU, and other jurisdictions have approved the acquisition, China has still not finalized approval.

I am a watcher on this article and as soon as the deal goes through, I will make the appropriate edit. Thanks Bobsd (talk) 22:36, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

On second thought ... rather than remove MMI, since the article defines Acquisition Date as the date the two entities agreed to the deal, I will add "pending regulatory approval" in the applicable places. Bobsd (talk) 23:04, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Hi, Can someone update the article as Google sold Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for $2.91 billion. Can we remove the acquisition from the list or just put some note below the table by putting the text in the row in italics? Nikhil (talk) 11:57, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Timeline Google

I've made a timeline that shows the most important steps in the Google history and how they change during the time and how they are connected. I think that this timeline will give a big picture of the entire page. Feedbacks appreciated, thanks!

I moved it higher up as at least in Chromium, it was creating a huge stretch of whitespace by basically acting as a block element. ☃ Unicodesnowman (talk) 14:57, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
