According to special:Longpages, this is the largest page in the entire encyclopedia, almost twice the size of the next-largest page. Furthermore, that next-largest page is also a vanilla list of places, as are all the top five biggest pages, and all five of them were created by the same user. The next-biggest one outside of the five pages created by that user is just about a third the size of this page. Even if this list was encyclopedic or useful (and I think it's not, and would vote to delete it if it came up on VfD), it's plain that it is just Too Damn Big. While size constraints are a bit looser for lists, Wikipedia articles should not rival small MP3s in size. Aquillion 04:01, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I knocked out a bunch of the breakups, but there is still some stuff left to be done. We should add the header from this page to all the daughters, and mark some with {{list-stub}}. What is the intended use for this parent list?

There seems to be a combination of cities that are included in the separate alphabetical listing and other places that are listed only here. Is this by design? Shold it be shortened to just the navigation emplae and a see also section for other lists?--Hjal 10:49, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

well, maybe not useless, but very strangely structured. "places", shouldnt that include parks, lakes, neighborhoods? and shouldnt redlinked names have references? I agree this is way too big to be useful as an article. maybe a category.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 08:52, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Many more edits are needed

There are so many more edits that are needed for this group of lists that I don't even know where to begin. As many other editors have mentioned it's clunky and difficult to navigate, and it's also very hard to find if you're not explicitly looking for it. For example, it would be great to see if these places could be categorized by type of place, for example whether it's an independent city or town, a sub-neighborhood of a larger city, a CDP or an unincorporated community that is not necessarily a CDP, and make this the standard for all pages. I think the ZIP code data could be combined into one column on all pages, with the column title labeled as "ZIP Code(s)" and either a singular ZIP Code or range of ZIP Codes added for each place. Many of the places on these lists either do not exist or no longer exist, and there are a few duplicate entries that should also be removed. I think it might also be a good idea to add population, size and incorporation data to places where it applies. I commend everyone who has put work into this group of lists so far, but these are just a few ideas I have for making it stronger and more purposeful for readers.
