good going
[edit]I remember when this was created that all of the events had happened very recently and were mostly from football (soccer) games. I'm quite proud of the fact that the community has made this article now quite comprehensive. Good going wikipedians! -Drdisque 00:14, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

- Unfortunately for this article, and fortunately for sports, this was not a spectator incident. -Drdisque 20:44, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Template listing incidents -- Reply To Headline Creator Requested
[edit]How can we design a template listing all of the incidents and how can we come up with a way to name each incident??? Not just spectator incidents but sports incidents of all kinds!!! I'm open for suggestions!!! --WIKISCRIPPS 07 THU DEC 21 2006 8:59 PM EST
Americo-centrism allegations
[edit]This list is really americo-centric though. or is it simply cos americans get more into the violent spectator thing than anyone else? could someone complete this page and include incidents that happened in lots of other countries as well? Kenkoo1987 11:17, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- Read the article. There's a LOT of things on their regarding European football matches. If you have any more information, you're welcome to add it as well. -Drdisque 13:57, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- I suspect the reason is that none of our European editors have added much to this list yet. With the way fans in certain part of the world clash with atheletes, especially at soccer matches, there is a lot of additional material floating around that could be added. Resolute 15:31, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
I don't this list is US-centric, and a huge number of the events listed happened at European soccer matches. A better argument might be that soccer isn't a real sport —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.23.193.172 (talk) 22:06, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- Actually it looks rather Australia-centric to me, or perhaps Victoria-centric, because there's a much higher proportion of Australian Football events compared to sports from other countries, relative to the size of those countries. 68.83.175.245 (talk) 11:29, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Dodgers-Diamondbacks in June 2000
[edit]I suspect this is pure fabrication. The Dodgers did not come to Arizona in June 2000 at all, and Todd Hundley also missed almost the entire month, neither appearing in a game until June 26 nor facing AZ that month. Without evidence to back this up, it should probably be removed. -- Jim, AZSnakePit.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.231.82.213 (talk) 00:19, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
I agree, I can't find any reference to such an event so I've deleted it. I've also referenced the May event. -Drdisque (talk) 03:43, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

- The result was merge into List of violent spectator incidents in sports. -- LunarLander // talk // 02:55, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm proposing that Rugby league hooliganism content be merged into this article. As it contains spectator incidents from a range of professional sports there is no need for this separation. LunarLander // talk // 18:31, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Trivial and non-violent incidents
[edit]I notice that a number of the more recent items on this list are fairly trivial and/or non-violent. By way of example, I just removed an entry for April 2 2010, which stated that
"Shortly after the start of an NRL game between the Sydney Roosters and the Brisbane Broncos at Sydney Football Stadium, a female fan jumped the fence and climbed onto the lap of Roosters forward Daniel Conn, who was on the interchange bench. Conn and Roosters team officials called security, who ejected the fan from the arena."
I don't see how this qualifies as a 'violent spectator incident'. I also notice an entry for July 4 2009 that says;
At half-time in an AFL match at Docklands Stadium between the Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn, a Hawthorn fan furious at the team's poor performance during the game poured beer over Hawthorn captain Sam Mitchell as the teams went to their locker rooms.
Again, I'm not sure that this is violent, but I'm also uncertain that it is particularly noteworthy.
In order to prevent the list from getting too large, I'd like to propose that any entries on the list should be considered in terms of whether they are both violent and noteworthy. Prima facie evidence of the incident being noteworthy would be widespread reporting of the incident, at least nationally and preferably internationally. Thepm (talk) 02:44, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
ESPN list good for a few that seem to have been missed
[edit]Noticed Matthew Barnaby wasn't mentioned. Might want to cross check this ESPN top-10 list here. All should be considered notable incidents, given their editorial choice of the biggest US sports broadcaster. --Bobak (talk) 23:06, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Tagged this for verification. I couldn't find anything on "Bill Considine" (although I didn't try real hard) and I'm wondering if the name is spelled incorrectly? Also need further detail for the reference. Thepm (talk) 03:02, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Georgetown vs. Bayi rockets
[edit]Can someone summarize that incident? Sports writing isn't my expertise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.181.218.65 (talk) 04:49, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that incident qualifies for inclusion to this article. The fighting was between players of opposing teams, and other than reports of water bottles being thrown from the stands, there was no actual player vs fan violence.--Chimino (talk) 14:07, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
