Architect of Anderson House

[edit]

The museum's promotional materials state that the Milwaukee Building Co. was the architect of the house on the basis of a local historic designation form. The form, however, only suggests that MBC might have designed the building on the ground that the firm is known to have designed a house for Anderson's brother. The form contains no evidence for its attribution.

The records of the firm of Lamb & Rich/Charles Rich, on the other hand, list a California house for Anderson. The firm was Anderson's personal designer. The firm designed a Manhattan house, a public bath, a campus plan and several buildings for Barnard, an unbuilt Roosevelt Hospital pavilion, the Greenwich library, a childrens' home renovation in Chappaqua, the Bryant Park Studios, and a school in Kentucky for her. Rich was sent by Anderson on personal errands to Russia, Egypt, and elsewhere to sketch buildings and procure antiques. Unless some contrary evidence emerges, the designer of the house should be listed as Charles A. Rich.--Researcher19c 17:02, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
