This article should not be speedy deleted as lacking sufficient context to identify its subject, because... (your reason here) --BruceWHain (talk) 03:58, 21 October 2011 (UTC) The Longchamps chain is an important artifact of New York culture and everybody in thecity knew of it as late as the 1960's. The story of the original owner, who named the restaurant after his favorite racetrack, then had it taken away from him for tax evasion, is an interesting one. The chain was rescued from it's owner-induced spiral by Jan Mitchell, who also owned Luchow's - the Wikipedia page for which is undergoing major renovation in my sandbox.[reply]

Mitchell is the one - if my memory serves me - who let blacks in at the the Washington, D.C. Longchamps location for the first time: The first-time event is mentioned in the article you are attempting to delete.

I have attempted once to make additions to the article describing the singular physical surroundings - art decco - of the Longchamps restaurants, and will, if permitted, add the name of the designer - already in wikipedia - as soon as I am able.BruceWHain (talk) 03:58, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

From website Restaurant-ing Through History: "With Haute Cuisine for All: Longchamps" by Jan Whitaker, 2009 The person has numerous well written and fascinating articles about main-line restaurants and some rare - in my experience - restaurant esoterica, by main-line standards. I did not see proffered any particular credentials but says her father was long-time employee of restaurant(s) in chicago. Maybe it will be possible to email her and ask her about her sources.
