GA suspension and Article face-lift.
[edit]I have temporarily removed the GA nomination while the article undergoes a face lift. Pr3st0n (talk) 16:38, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]Is Lostock really pronounced /lɵstɵk/? It seems unlikely that all the vowels are reduced; surely you can reduce only an unstressed syllable? I always assumed it was pronounced in the obvious way as /ˈlɒsˌtɒk/, with almost equal stress on both syllables. Or does all the stress go on the first syllable (in which case it would be /ˈlɒstɵk/ or /ˈlɒstək/)? And unless the local pronunciation is totally bizarre, I'm sure "Hall" is pronounced as in everyday English as /hɔːl/. -- Dr Greg talk 01:28, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- I live in Lostock Hall, and yes we do pronounce it weird. It gets that confusing at times that most of the locals around here nickname it "Tardy Gate" which is a former area of the village too. When spoken it sounds pretty much like /lɵstɵk/. Hope this helps. Pr3st0n (talk) 02:46, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- I've changed it anyway, so that it shows how to pronounce it using without local dialect. Pr3st0n (talk) 08:38, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
