Lu Lin (footballer) → Lu Lin – Hatnotes should suffice. Timmyshin (talk) 22:57, 3 September 2014 (UTC) Withdraw proposal. Timmyshin (talk) 19:08, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose - it is not en.wp practice to distinguish on variations in romanization systems. Neither Lu Lin, or the other with an umlaut are real names like we might (but also usually don't) distinguish a German vs an American name because of lack of an umlaut in the American, but representations of Chinese characters in a romanization system. The system distinguishes a closed "u" with an umlaut yes, but it isn't an umlaut that is part of the real name as German, only a representation. This is en.wp practice (as the status quo on these articles indicates) and I believe should be written into WP:PINYIN. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:54, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- If what you are saying is indeed the practice, then a number of "Lü" pages ought to be moved. Starting with Lü Lin the table tennis player to Lü Lin (table tennis). Do you agree? Timmyshin (talk) 02:22, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Support. Even if diacritics are insufficient to distinguish these, it is still a WP:TWODABS situation where any navigation needed can be accomplished in a hatnote more easily than on a separate page. bd2412 T 03:09, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose - Why should "Lu Lin" be associated with a footballer? Let's hope that, one day, an actor or a philosopher named Lu Lin will exist someday. --George Ho (talk) 04:06, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Is this a serious comment? Timmyshin (talk) 07:07, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Comment Lü Lin is misnamed, none of the references used in the article use that spelling. They use "Lu Lin". -- 65.94.169.222 (talk) 04:42, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Are you referring to the footballer or some other person? If the former, then Lu (卢/盧) is always Lu, not Lü. --George Ho (talk) 04:59, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter what the references say, Lü (surname) and Lu (surname) are different surnames. The table tennis player has the former surname. Timmyshin (talk) 07:07, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose despite the longer article for the footballer, neither seems to be the primary topic. --Bejnar (talk) 14:28, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
