Page move
[edit]This page should be moved to Major Biden or Major Biden (dog). Not only is it a better disambiguation, but also sources have referred to him as such.[1] Major (dog) should be a disambiguation page that links to both Major Biden and Major (Franklin D. Roosevelt's dog), as well as any other notable dogs that might be named Major. --eduardog3000 (talk) 02:59, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
Personally, I think a better change would be Major (Joe Biden's dog), although this currently links to the Biden table entry on the page United States presidential pets. RSLitman (talk) 03:14, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Last Day of Tenure?
[edit]The box on the top right shows his tenure going through "Present". I was tempted to change it, but I don't know the exact date his tenure ended or will end. It's been a while since I contributed to a Talk page, so I'm not sure I'm signing it correctly. It's shortly past 10:00 pm (2200 hours) Eastern U.S. time on Tuesday night, December 21, 2021. Major (dog) → Major (Joe Biden's dog) – WP:INCOMPLETEDAB. WP:RECENTISM is the only likely explanation that this dog article gets more page views than Franklin D. Roosevelt's dog (which famously bit a United States Senator and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1933 while living at the White House). — BarrelProof (talk) 00:20, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support I'm not convinced by the nom's argument about recentism (although I am sympathetic to a similar argument about WP:SURPRISE), but per the fact that this is incomplete disambiguation it should be moved. Wasn't there a dog named Major in Animal Farm? User:力 (powera, π, ν) 01:23, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
- Old Major of Animal Farm was a pig. — BarrelProof (talk) 02:18, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support Joe Biden's dog gets 14,188 views compared with 790[[1]] for Franklin D. Roosevelt's dog but I agree with the possibility of recentism for partial disambiguation. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:25, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support, better to disambiguate fully. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 10:36, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support The disambiguation is needed. Showiecz (talk) 19:57, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support Per nom as incomplete disambiguation. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 05:43, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support, per above as there is two dogs called Major. Sahaib3005 (talk) 08:15, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

– I think these titles are better since Wikipedia prefers natural disambiguation rather than parenthetical disambiguation. I am unaware of a naming conventions regarding whether the family name is used, but I think it is worth considering. Interstellarity (talk) 18:05, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- Leaning opposed: Although a few sources may use that term, attributing the owner's surname to a dog seems a bit informal in tone for an encyclopedia. It's also a bit confusing (e.g., whether it refers to Biden having a military rank), and it's inconsistent with Major (Franklin D. Roosevelt's dog) and Champ (dog), and probably inconsistent with how all or nearly all other named animals are referred to on Wikipedia. — BarrelProof (talk) 20:20, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- @BarrelProof, These articles should be moved to Major Roosevelt and Champ Biden respectively. Interstellarity (talk) 12:15, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- Judging from the comments from others, I suppose this is not going to happen, but are there any reliable sources at all that refer to the dog as "Major Roosevelt"?
- @BarrelProof, These articles should be moved to Major Roosevelt and Champ Biden respectively. Interstellarity (talk) 12:15, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose, the majority of sources call Major Major. Sahaib3005 (talk) 20:27, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- Sounds like a Catch-22 :) YorkshireExpat (talk) 17:40, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

- lol, thanks. I'm sure hundreds of people a month will be using it. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:17, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose, I have seen no sources calling them such and this is inconsistent with other individual animal article titles. Cavalryman (talk) 08:37, 23 March 2022 (UTC).
