Doug Flutie

[edit]

Doug Flutie was born in Catonsville, MD not Manchester —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.234.123.67 (talk) 00:54, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Flutie's wikipedia entry suggests he was born in Manchester, MD as well as the Reference that was cited:
"Heisman Trophy Winner(s): Doug Flutie. Sure, he's associated with Natick, Mass., but the 1984 Heisman winner was born in Manchester, Md. And while he might be an all-time great in Canada, he won't be polishing a bust in Canton anytime soon."
If you have evidence that suggests otherwise please share it with us Mopenstein (talk) 15:59, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

I will be adding more to the history section at a later date.

Couldn't this just be made into a page about the county or about the state? Does Wikipedia really need an entry without any real notability? NobutoraTakeda 14:43, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that you need to remove some of the career information as all of this information can be seen on the actual Doug Flutie wiki page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.55.73.114 (talk) 02:22, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Baltimore County

[edit]

No part of Manchester is in Baltimore County. Hampstead which is five miles South of Manchester abuts Baltimore County but is indeed in Carroll County. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oat57 (talkcontribs) 01:56, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removed text stating that parts of Manchester are located inside Baltimore County, I could find no reference supporting this 69.139.238.225 (talk) 03:51, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Manchester Academy and Irving College

[edit]

I would like more information about and some references for The Manchester Academy.

The only historical references I could find are for an "Irving College" was "Irving Female College" but that was built in Mechanicsburg by Solomon P. Gorgas, I would appreciate and references clearing this up as well. 69.139.238.225 (talk) 03:45, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Moving this here until I can find some good sources
At one time, Manchester had a cultural atmosphere resulting from the establishment of two fine educational institutions. The Manchester Academy founded in 1831, and Irving College, founded in 1858, attracted students from several states. However, dissension resulting from the American Civil War closed the Manchester Academy[citation needed] and seriously weakened Irving College[citation needed], which survived until 1893.

I've found references for both the Academy and College, however I've decided to only add Irving College for now Mopenstein (talk) 13:34, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar

[edit]

I've reworked this entire article, adding references and original images of the town. However my grammar is not the best. Please feel free to correct any grammatical errors. Mopenstein (talk) 13:38, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject: Maryland

[edit]

It would appear that the Wikipedia:WikiProject Maryland is dead, I've requested a reassessment of this article to have it updated from 'Start' class. However I've seen that they've not reassessed a site that requested it since April 2008. If there are no objections I'll be removing the WikiProject:Maryland tag from this discussion page because this article is definitely not a 'Start' class article.Mopenstein (talk) 14:51, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It has been removed Mopenstein (talk) 12:03, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
