Title
[edit]Hold on a minute, Piccadilly station is also a Manchester Metrolink station, so surely calling this a 'railway station' in the title is not correct. G-Man * 21:51, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
- Its been a railway station for over a hundred years so the title is correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.203.8.50 (talk) 16:07, 26 July 2007
no it is a railyway station which also allows access to the metro — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.23.139.57 (talk) 12:14, 2 August 2007
Footfall
[edit]It is the fifth busiest major station in the United Kingdom outside London for footfall.
Footfall?? It's not exactly a common term, so it should be explained (or avoided). --Jotel 08:04, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- Additionally, the stats in the given reference for footfall/visitor numbers are as follows:
Name of station Visitor numbers (per annum) London station? Liverpool Street 141,100,000 Yes Victoria 115,600,000 Yes Waterloo 104,100,000 Yes London Bridge 56,100,000 Yes Euston 52,000,000 Yes Paddington 46,666,000 Yes Charing Cross 45,900,000 Yes King's Cross* 40,658,000 Yes Birmingham New Street 35,100,000 No Glasgow Central 34,900,000 No Leeds 29,116,000 No Cannon Street 27,740,000 Yes Manchester Piccadilly 20,600,000 No Fenchurch Street 17,700,000 Yes Liverpool Lime Street 17,251,000 No Edinburgh Waverley 15,200,000 No Gatwick* 11,370,000 No
- By my count, that puts Manchester as the fourth busiest major station in the United Kingdom outside London for footfall...? Casper Gutman (talk • contributions) 10:00, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I think this image is probably a more suitable lead image. Any objections to me changing it? --Jza84 | Talk 01:41, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- Personally I prefer the existing one, but if you change it I promise not to revert :-)--Jotel (talk) 07:27, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Northbound termini platforms, and...
[edit]I've noticed a lack of northbound termini platforms at Piccadilly. Also a lack of platforms like 13 and 14, just the two, this appears to prevent services running through Manchester up to Preston and Scotland, despite there being 2 routes up north just out of Manchester, yet the downside to this is that the services sometimes have to terminate at Manchester Oxford Road. Can someone explain the lack of these platforms? Tez011 (talk) 16:34, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- It was never intended primarily to be a through station. Platforms 13 and 14 used to have only very local services through to Oxford Road and, after the Altrincham line was re-electrified at 25kV AC in the ?1970s, to Altrincham (stopping trains coming from Crewe). Services from Manchester to the north were all from Victoria Station; connecting them to Piccadilly is a quite recent idea. Likewise the trans-Pennine services (Liverpool-Hull etc.) which now come through platforms 13 and 14 at Piccadilly went through Victoria (or, at one time, Exchange) and had nothing to do with Piccadilly. There are now plans to quadruple at vast expense the lines through to Oxford Road which will involve creating two new platforms to duplicate 13 and 14. I believe this is part of the Manchester Hub scheme. -- Alarics (talk) 16:55, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, exactly as I thought. Can I get a date if it's been confirmed? 80.192.157.6 (talk) 18:25, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Mid-Cheshire Line
[edit]The table shows the Mid-Cheshire line trains stopping at Levenshulme; that's not correct, they run non-stop to Stockport. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Altfish (talk • contribs) 14:54, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
- Westbound services do indeed run non-stop, but slightly over half of the eastbound services (those departing Chester between 08:07 and 17:07 inclusive - 10 trains out of 19) call both Levenshulme and Heaton Chapel. See National Rail Tables 84 and 88. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:40, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Metrolink station
[edit]Hi all, I think the Metrolink station section needs a bit of a comprehensive rewrite. It almost needs splitting into sub-sections (History, services etc) but I don't think there's enough material. There is duplication of (vague) information, especially regarding the reversing siding and rebuild for the Ashton line. I've tried to improve it a bit, but reckon there's still much to be done. Any thoughts? --Peeky44 What's on your mind? 14:32, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
