Place of death

[edit]

Bonta places MM's death in Far Rockaway, while (according to the article) Benson places it in Rockaway Beach. I will try to access a copy of Benson to confirm. I'm inclined to just say Rockaway, which encompasses both neighborhoods. Dgorsline (talk) 12:52, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Benson is not abundantly clear. MM took rooms in Brooklyn for some period of time while she made plans to establish a museum/bath house in Rockaway Beach. When those plans foundered, it seems that she moved (when?) to Rockaway Beach to be with the collection and that she died there (p. 191). So Rockaway Beach appears to be the best information for her place of death, rather than Brooklyn (as Sterling et al., Biographical Dictionary of American and Canadian Naturalists and Environmentalists [1997] has it) and certainly not Far Rockaway.
By the way, Benson (ibid.) gives Woodsburgh, New York in Nassau County as MM's burial place, with an Episcopal ceremony. Perhaps Trinity Cemetery? Dgorsline (talk) 13:04, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
