Notability
[edit]Need to establish this persons notability beyond his court appearance in the Derek Chauvin trial. I see little content online that meets notability guidelines apart from a large number of scholarly papers -- not certain these alone establish notability, particularly since he is not the sole author of the majority of them. Octoberwoodland (talk) 07:02, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
- As per Wikipedia:Notability (doctors), this person does appear to meet the minimum threshold for notability. Octoberwoodland (talk) 21:08, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
- And yet the only reason this page was created was because of the Chauvin trial. As it stands we have one third Chauvin trial, one third education and career, and one third intro. If not for his decision to testify would he be notable? I for one don't think it meets the WP:N threshold. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 人族 (talk • contribs) 06:10, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- Appearance at the Chauvin trial was the trigger for the article being written but he would be notable regardless of this. He is regarded as a world expert in his area (which is not niche) and has a medical formula named after him.--GeneralBelly (talk) 00:48, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- I agree that, per WP:NACADEMIC, Tobin meets notability requirements since he has such a large affect on his field. His presence in the Chauvin trial only increases his notability, especially since coverage about his presence in the trial has continued (see WP:NOTBLP1E). —Wingedserif (talk) 21:08, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Tobin is arguably the most well-known pulmonologist in the US, and absolutely meets notability requirements. As an indication of how well-regarded he is, his opinions were widely cited early on in the COVID pandemic, and he directly impacted the shift away from early intubation of COVID patients solely because of low oxygen saturation (which dramatically improved survival rates among patients hospitalized with COVID). There is no doubt that Tobin shaped management of COVID patients and saved thousands of lives. Examples available on request. Global Cerebral Ischemia (talk) 01:35, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
