Perhaps some mention should be made of the poem, "The Massachusetts Line", by the Rev. R.T.S. Lowell. A copy can be found at: http://harvardregiment.org/poem25.html#massachusettsline

The poem is actually about the American Civil War, but it does demonstrate the use of the phrase, and places it in some historical context. Mykej 18:17, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
