POV issues

[edit]

The article currently reads too much like a promotional web site. The subject is unencyclopedically referred to as "Maxim", every event and incident is described from his point of view and there's not a single word of criticism about anything he's ever done. Views of such a public figure can't be this one-sided. Jah77 (talk) 17:11, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Being investigated for something poorly characterised

Political persecution of Maxim Katz in Russia. (Also, the underuse of the articles in the English language).

[edit]

As far as I can see, Mr. Katz is one of the few Russians who has been officially repressed so hard by the Russian government. He is officially labelled as a "foreign agent"; he is on the Russia's MIA "wanted list"; he has been both fined (first Russian "foreign agent" to receive this punishment) and imprisoned in absentia and he has given quite extensive comments about it, so we can write quite a complete text about it. (Specifically, he said that he knew why he had been investigated. (He claimed he had been trialled for his Bucha Massacre video, like Ilya Yashin)). That is why I think there should be a separate subsection about his quelling by the Russian state. Furthermore, I think the 'Biography' section in this article is too big in general, compared to others.

On the other hand, I don't really see a reason for mentioning his presence on the 'Myrotvorets' database. This website is not official, and, to the best of knowledge, the Ukrainian government has officially severed all ties with it long time ago. Or, at the very least, this part ought to be moved elsewhere on the page. (Maybe it can be moved to the 'Personal life' section). I highly doubt that a lot of famous media outlets, (especially international ones, like the AP), commented on it or, indeed, said anything about this website's other famous designees, like the contemporary President of Croatia.

Last but not least, I believe we should add more articles in the English language, as an unforgivable amount of them are in Russian. Dipy 618Z (talk) 02:47, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think there should be some reorganization. I will try to make improvements later.
In terms of Myrotvorets, he is also known for criticizing Ukrainian policy. There is enough coverage on him being included. Yes, it is not an official website but still used by officials. I have not seen that they stopped using it. I think if more was added about his Ukraine stances then this would balance it out more. A brief sentence about Myrotvorets would be enough.
English-language sources are not necessary, see WP:NOENG. There will be far more Russian-language sources than English-language ones in cases like this. Mellk (talk) 03:19, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mellk By the way, (I am really sorry if it is written in the guidelines, however, I have failed to find one). Is it legal to add official photos from Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs "wanted persons" website? This is not about Maxim Katz per se, as many Russians are now on this list. Dipy 618Z (talk) 06:21, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not certain, the website should say this. But I have seen non-free images uploaded from there. Mellk (talk) 21:10, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify, have you seen any such images uploaded on Commons? I have seen a few on Russian Wikipedia (not Commons) but these were non-free. Mellk (talk) 02:01, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also to note: English-language sources are preferred over non-English ones when they are available and of equal quality and relevance. Mellk (talk) 03:20, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mellk Ok, I got you. Thanks a lot for giving feedback :3. Dipy 618Z (talk) 03:36, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
